Two persons who were conveying a corpse lost their lives in an accident which occurred on Saturday at Kwali, on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
Journalists learnt that four other mourners in the vehicle sustained injuries and were evacuated to a hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
A witness said the accident happened at 8:15a.m. when the Toyota Tundra with registration number ASB 31 AA, which was conveying the mourners had a burst tyre, skidded off the road, summersaulted and crashed into a ditch.
He said the corpses, coffin and the injured were immediately taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) in Gwagwalada.
Our reporter learnt that the casualties were conveying the corpse of their relation from the UATH to Delta State when the accident happened at the RCC Junction in Kwali.
When contacted, the Yangoji Unit Commander of the FRSC, ACC Joseph Samgbaza, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to speed limit violation and loss of control.
He said the corpses of the two mourners had been deposited at the UATH morgue.
In a related development, three persons were injured in another accident which occurred on Sunday evening at Naharati village, near Abaji, on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A witness said the accident which happened at about 5:00p.m.involved a Toyota bus with registration number WWR 603 XA which lost control while on top speed and crashed into a ditch.
He said three male adults and one female adult were injured and were taken to the Abaji General Hospital by men of the FRSC.
When contacted, the Abaji Unit Commander of the FRSC, Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to speed limit violation and loss of control.
