Reveals What Made Her Win
Miss Katherine Samuel Oluwanifemi Nana a few weeks ago emerged as The Most Beautiful Lady in Ikorodu. The combination of Beautiful and Intelligent lady, wears the prestigious crown of Miss Ikorodu 2023 having won the beauty contest usually held days before the annual Ikorodu Oga Festival. Her emergence was well celebrated as the young lady who is just 23 years of age is indeed an epitome of beauty. She just gained admission into National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN to study Mass Communication. She is highly created and hardworking. She is into all round models, she does it on runways. She combines all these with her catering business among many other things she does.
When did you emerge as Miss Ikorodu Oga?
That was on the 13th of this month. That was on Monday.
How did you emerge? Can you tell us how you won the contest?
As we all know, being a beauty queen is not by the crown or the stature alone. It’s about what we have upstairs, surpassing the forthcoming generation of Ikorodu Oga. So, I can possibly say, because of my dress, what I delivered, how I answered questions posed to me correctly. I was actually prepared for this and my dream came true.
How many of you have contested for?
We were ten. I think the two were intimidated. I don’t know what happened. So, they dropped out, then we were eventually eight on stage.
What spurred you into joining the race?
I’m actually here for a higher beauty pageant. So I came to think of it as how it is possible for me to go out there to show people what I have without showing it to my own hometown. I need to let the hometown know that they have a queen that is capable, that is ready to support the brand, to advertise the brand.
Now that you have won the pageant, how do you feel?
It means a lot to me because to me it looks like it’s a dream come true for me. Yeah because it’s something I’ve been planning for . I contested some years back and I didn’t win. But I’m the kind of person who thinks I give up easily. So giving up is not my agenda and that was the reason why I came back this year. But thanks to the Almighty I eventually won and I’m proud to say I’m the Miss Ikorodu Oga 2023.
As Miss Ikorodu, how do you intend to inspire the youths and young ladies out there?
Based on the situation of the country right now, I’m ready to give back to society by giving back to the widows and the widowers. Not just them but also the old ones. Yes, I really want to give back to them because of the situation of the country. People are hungry, so in my own little way, I’m just going to give back to them. That’s been improved. Even if it’s just for one day, at least they will remember me for that.
How do you intend to raise funds to fulfill your humanitarian concerns?
With the help of ICODASS, myself, and my club, Tobalase Obinrin Ikorodu and with God, everything, to be positive.
Tell us about your membership of Egbe Tobalase Obinrin Ikorodu
It was on Tuesday before the grand finale of our pageant. There was a raffle draw for us to pick from. So, I picked the club, Egbe Tobalase Obinrin Ikorodu, as my club and I’ll now be working with them.
Throughout my reign, I’ll be working with them. Do you have any special projects for young ladies like you?
To ladies like me, I don’t really know. Let me say we are still young. I have a lot in mind. But we all know what’s going on in the country right now. Things are not really moving well. But in my own little way, I would just advise them that they should keep doing what they’re doing.
They should not give up. And if you want to learn what you want to learn, don’t just relent. Don’t let anybody tell you you can do it. You can do it. No matter how you are, grip or anything, you can do whatever you plan to do.
How long did it take you to prepare for this?
Hey, for this I’m very, I can lie since last year because, since last year because when I saw the person that won last year I was like wow I really want to go back to this because she reminded me of, she reminded me of the time I contested.
I contested three, four years ago but I didn’t win so I didn’t even make it to the top five. So when I saw the person that won last year I was like wow she was one of us and she won. She’s just my source of motivation, inspiration. I have to do this and I can do it. And that was the reason why I said I have to prepare and I have stepped up since then. Today I saw her with the crown. I started preparing and I’m still on it till we came to the camp and I’m happy my preparation didn’t go to waste. Everything came positive.
What is your word for the upcoming models looking forward to becoming Miss Ikorodu soonest?
What they should learn from me is that they should never give up and never look down on themselves. Don’t let anybody hate you. You can do it no matter what you look like. Because to me being a beauty queen is not highly beautiful alone. Yes, it’s not by beauty alone. Don’t think I am not beautiful, I am not tall, I am chubby. No, we have a lot of chubby people. The first runner up is choppy also. Yes. So, it’s not by stature or anything. You just try to work on yourself and showcase what you’ve got. That’s all.
