In a recent interview with City People Head of TV,  SUNDAY ADIGUN, Star Actress Kemity, opened up about her journey in Nollywood, her rise to fame, and how her role in the hit movie Koleosho elevated her career. Below is the full interview:

Let me start by congratulating you on your many successes. When you look back, how does it feel to see people swarming around you? Kemity is reigning now. How does that make you feel, considering the years you started?

All thanks to Almighty God. God made it possible because without Him, no one bears Kemity. I am always happy when I see myself being celebrated. It surprises me when I go out and people surround me to take pictures with me, because I normally see myself as someone not so different from those watching me. We are the same, but I thank God He made it possible.

What are the things you did differently that elevated your craft?

I would say not slacking and not being lazy. No matter what someone does in life, you must always put in effort and never think you have arrived. Even now, I haven’t reached my full potential. If this stage I’m at is like 1,000 stage, I’m still in stage 1. I haven’t shown my full talent yet. I take things one step at a time, and when God shows His glory in full, it will be revealed.

I am still learning and looking up to people ahead of me. When I saw the green light and realized this is what I was praying for, I stood up and said, “This is what I want to fight for.” I’ve been a hustler from the beginning. I don’t want to bore my fans; I want to give them something new every time. I play different characters, do funny voiceovers, and have a lot to offer. I am confident that no Sidi fan will ever be tired of me—they’re not even ready for what’s coming.

How did acting start for you?

I started by going to rehearsals near my mum’s shop, and from there, God elevated me.

For the purpose of this interview, can you briefly explain how you met your boss, Itele?

My boss is my mentor. God made me meet him. Initially, my mum didn’t want me involved in theatre—she wanted me to be a lawyer. But my boss had already made a name for himself. There was a film where he fed his mother with his hand, and my mum, who was in the hospital at the time, said if I worked under someone who knew how to take care of his mother, she would allow me to go into theatre.

I immediately saw this as an opportunity because I love making people laugh. I approached him, asked to work under him, and he told me what to do and asked if I was ready to be responsible. Since then, he has been guiding me, and that’s how our professional relationship started.

Your role in Koleosho has really boosted your career. How did you get the role, and how did you balance it?

One thing about me is that I don’t argue. I don’t want to lose arguments because it pains me if I am wrong. That mindset makes me accept roles and give my best. My boss always says, “Put in your best,” and I always do.

In one of his previous films, he asked me to choose any character. For Koleosho, he explained the story and told me to put in all my effort, including my unique style of using “incorrect English,” which he encouraged me to include. I don’t argue, and this approach has turned into a blessing. Initially, we only planned Koleosho to have two parts, but because of his leadership and experience, and due to popular demand, he wrote another part, making Koleosho a huge success.

Can we expect more projects from you?

Yes, I have many projects coming up. People should expect Koleosho Part 3. I also have a movie set for release on Saturday, November 8
