What City People Found Out
The political landscape of Oyo State is buzzing with a renewed vigor within the All Progressives Congress (APC). The task before the leadership of the party is very clear, to reclaim power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and also to deliver the state for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
How do they plan to achieve this? For the first time in a long time, the party is coming to the roundtable to strategize.
To be frank, the strategic reconciliatory moves and extensive grassroots consultations undertaken by the party are already yielding positive results, positioning it as a formidable force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A significant development is the ongoing reconciliation efforts within the Oyo APC. Sources close to the party leadership indicate a concerted drive to mend fences and unify all aggrieved factions.
This internal cohesion, a critical factor often overlooked, is seen as a major strength.
‘We are leaving no stone unturned in bringing everyone to the table,’ stated a high-ranking party official who preferred anonymity.
‘A united house is a strong house, and that’s our focus,’ he noted, adding that the mandate from the national leadership of the party is to unite all aggrieved members.
Members are to pay premium attention to the unity of the party and not individuals’ ambitions for now, according to him.
Another source told City People that the stakeholders within the Oyo APC have agreed to work with whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearers for the governorship election in 2027.
Complementing this internal healing, the ‘Renewed Hope Ambassadors’, and other APC stakeholders have embarked on extensive strategic consultations across all senatorial districts in the state.
These consultations are not mere rallies but interactive sessions aimed at understanding the needs and aspirations of the populace, while also communicating the party’s vision and achievements.
In Oyo South, meetings have focused on economic empowerment and infrastructure development, while Oyo North discussions have centered on agricultural support and rural development.
Oyo Central has seen engagements around youth inclusion and educational reforms. These district-specific approaches demonstrate a commitment to tailored solutions, resonating deeply with local communities.
Political analysts suggest that this dual approach – internal reconciliation coupled with widespread public engagement – will create a robust foundation for the APC, making it difficult to be beaten by any political party in the state come 2027.
Once the internal disputes within the party are resolved, and their ongoing effective connection with the electorate at the grassroots level is maintained, then the task becomes easier.
The APC in Oyo State seems to be mastering all these strategies, making them a very tough contender for 2027.
Some of the Oyo APC leaders and the Renewed Hope Agenda ambassadors championing the APC Unity Rally are former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin; Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; Senator Sharafadeen Alli of Oyo South Senatorial District; Senator Abdulfatai Buhari of Oyo North Senatorial District; Senator Yunus Akintunde Oyo Central, and other prominent party chieftains like Barrister Akeem Agbaje; Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle; Professor Adeolu Akande; former First Lady, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, among others.
