How Olubadan & IGBOHO Became Close

  • The Story Of Their Over 20 Years Relationship

On 18th January, 2026, the news broke that Sunday Igboho’s name had been withdrawn from the Wanted list through the help of his adopted father, Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. The story made the rounds after Olubadan’s meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso Rock.

The ban has been lifted and he is now free to travel around without being harassed and queried. However, those who are in power and some close associates have given reasons why his ban was lifted.

There have been rumours that a lot was attached to his release. Here is what City People found out.

Over the last few months there have been tension between the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Oyo State governor does not seem to be on the same page as President Tinubu over the 2027 election despite the fact that they both worked together in the last election in the state. Currently, the governor does not seem to have that kind of aspiration any longer. Our sources told us the President is exploring other alternatives apart from his APC structure in the state. One of the first steps is to woo the Oyo political gladiators, like the former Governor Ladoja, to work for his reelection in 2027, knowing full well that Olubadan has influence and a political structure in the state. But Oba Ladoja also gave a condition for this to work.

One of the conditions of Olubadan to Tinubu is Sunday Igboho, who is like a son and political backer for the special political project in the state. Olubadan cannot do without the support. They have won several political battles together while in power.

And shortly after the release,  some of Igboho’s associates have abandoned their agitation for Yoruba state,  affirming Tinubu’s continuation till 2031. And of course,  part of the condition of his pardon is also to drop his agitation for Yoruba state and ensure peace and harmony reigns in the country.

Shortly after Sunday Igboho’s pardon,  he went to thank Olubadan for his role and also thanked other Yoruba Obas.

Not many people know the real story of how Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Olubadan of Ibadan, and popular Ibadan man Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, started. Their relationship began over 20 years ago in Ibadan. His name started making waves and became famous for his roles in the Modakeke/Ife war of 1997 to 1998, where he fought on the side of the Modakeke. Igboho reportedly fell out with the Modakeke people and relocated to Ibadan, where he met former Oyo State Governor Lam Adesina through a courageous step while trying to defend the rights of the people at a fuel station. It was this act that made the former governor send for him, and he became one of former Governor Rasheed Ladoja’s trusted aides. What the two had that has worked for them is trust and loyalty to each other during the tenure of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as Oyo State governor.

Also, when late Lamidi Adedibu and former President Obasanjo wanted to impeach the governor then and one of the first steps was to settle with Sunday Igboho.  And Igboho himself confessed that for that singular reason of not betraying ex governor Ladoja,  his closeness to him became like father and son.

He revealed in one of the Videos about 2 years back why Olubadan doesn’t joke with him. In the video, he said, “It is true.  I was a key witness and also a key player in the political developments of that period. I was an insider. Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja was my leader, my political boss. I rose and fought on his behalf when the late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu and former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, wanted to carry out their illegal impeachment of Ladoja. By nature, I’m a gentleman, but I hate cheating and injustice. I have my supporters who are loyal to me and who also believe in me, just as I believe in Ladoja and I’m also loyal to him. My supporters and I, who some people like to describe as  Sunday  Igboho’s boys, decided to fight the injustice against Ladoja.

By nature, I’m not violent, but when the other party was not only being violent, but also being openly supported by ex-President Obasanjo, to the extent of even using police against Ladoja and his political interests, we had no choice than to fight back. When we fought back, people started saying  Sunday  Igboho and his boys are violent.

When they were hatching this impeachment plot against Ladoja, they knew that I would be an obstacle to their plan, therefore, Adedibu sent for me. Adedibu said I should meet him at Kakanfo Inn, here in Ibadan and when I got there that night, already seated with Adedibu was a senior police officer.

Adedibu later started talking, but at a point, I told him to tell me the particular offence Ladoja committed. After hesitating a while, Adedibu told me that they had concluded plans to impeach Ladoja, because Ladoja was stingy.

But he later pointedly told me that whether I liked it or not, Ladoja would go. He further told me to cooperate or they would look for ways to get me out of the way, to get Ladoja out of government. He told me that he had the backing of President Obasanjo. Many people knew that already at that time. He promised to reward me handsomely if I went along with the plot but I bluntly refused”,  Igboho said.

These are some of the reasons why Olubadan does not joke with Sunday Igboho and their relationship further grew from just an ordinary aide to father and son relationship.

Sunday’ Igboho’s career started from being a mechanic and a motorcycle repairer. But God had other plans for him. He guided Sunday into business and helped him meet the right people of great importance to do it well.

At present, apart from human rights protection, he does business worldwide. He has established a car sales business and owns a company called Adeson International Business Concept Ltd.

Sunday Igboho takes selling cars to be his main business because he has been selling cars since he was a youth. He met Governor Lam Adesina when there was petrol scarcity, people had to wait in long queues from dawn to refuel their cars. Sunday was the only person, who had enough courage to resist the soldiers and Adesina’s convoy, who wanted to break the line. Soon, he was called by Lam Adesina to tell the reason for his actions.
