Real Reason Why I Joined Politics – Hon. Ramotalai Akinola Hassan

Nigeria, with its highly human density and diverse culture is also known to have several political parties as well, with that said and with a clear knowledge that we also practice the Democratic system of Government, which breaks into three arms, the Legislative, Judiciary and executive.

In the state government we have the state house of assembly and most importantly the local government structure, in Lagos the sector is tagged as “LCDA”, This sector play a major role in the political place of things in Lagos, because of the ruling party which is APC that stands as the back bone running both the Federal and state of affairs in Lagos and the country as a whole for now.

The ruling parties put a lot of interest on its grass root politics and always ensure that its people are carried along and involved in decision making that concerns them. It’s in this light that we introduce Honorable Ramotalia Akinola Hassan

Honorable Ramotalai Akinola Hassan stands today as the current Chairman and in fact the first Female chairperson of the Oriade local government area of satellite town in Lagos. Our online reporter Igbokwe John of City People Magazine had an exclusive interview with her and it was quite interactive.

A lot has been said about you Ma, in the area of growth and development of your“LCDA” Oriade, but many really don’t know who is the person behind the rapid development, can we get to know the brain and strength behind the massive improvement been seen and felt now?

Well am Honourable Ramotalia Akinola Hassan with a humble beging, born and grew up in Ibeshe, which is one of the numerous areas in this  same Oriade local council, I was giving birth to by Late Chief Yinusa Adisa Akinola, from a large family of fourteen sisters and I been the first and by Gods special grace we are all graduates, am happily Marriec with children, am a straight forward person,honest and have a total fear of God.

How long have you been into Politics?

I would say, have been involved with politics for quite some time now, specificly grass root politics, even way back when my late father, Chief Adia Akinola was a councilor then under Amuwo dofine local government, even before the creation of Oreiade council, have always been involved with grass root politics and it wont be out of place to say that my late dad, played a major role in my decisison making of going into politics, my father hard always hard the needs and wants of the people in heart, and that stand as one major factor of me wanting to keep in his legacy going, I would also want to thank the great Asiwaju Ahmed Tinibu, who if not for him, I would not be were I am today, I remain greatful and also my father Aregbeshola, whom I remain great ful to as well.

This would be your second year in office as the chairman of the Oriade LCDA, what are some of the projects that you have put into effect and helped in improving the life of the people.

Honestly, my involvement with rural development did not start now because am the current chairman, it started way back even when I was a member of the state house of assembly representing my ward, while in the assembly I had always hard the people first as my priority and ensured development at all area an sector.

In regards to projects have supervised they would include the following: 1, We done the construction of the Esie tedo street opposite CBN estate in satellite town, with the use of inter locks, 2 the construction of modern jetty at Immore a riverine community, 3,the reconstruction of falling fence at ZI Primary school at Mazamaza, 4, we handled  and completed the abandoned ICT/Library center at satellite town, also equipment of satellite PHC for effective primary health care service, 5, also the ensured that the palace of Alamuso of Amuwo Kuje and Ofori of Ibeshe where renovated, showing our respect for tradition and elders.

Then on present project been handled include the construction of Omila road at Onireke with interlocking paving stones, we are also constructing three phase link bridge at Islande to link both Iyagbe and Ikaare community, that not all, we are working on the completion of Immore PHC so as to enhance health services and we are constantly providing welfare at any point in that the needs arises, for instant, we are supplying relieved materials to victims of boat mishap at Ilashe riverine axis and we are doing so many other projects as well.

Considering the last previous administration  before your coming into office what are the major projects that you are looking at carrying out that would stand for you as a milestone, even though all the projects been done matter.

Am glad you should ask this question, I started working myself as a local district staff and I started then from level (4) four, so I understand the basic needs of the staffs at the council, I run an open door policy which everyone can give account of, the same apply to the people living within my LCDA, at any time am called on phone, I always answer, if am not too busy, I see a missed call, I will always call back, so I say that to say this, my desire is to build a modern state of the art administrative building, that would be able to meet to the needs and wants of the workers at the council, so as to ensure that they are able to meet up and give their best at all times, it’s just the provision of adequate land space, though we are on it and it will be possible by Gods grace.

Presentlythere’s a lot of cry by the residence of the area, on the threat and stress coursed by the fuel tankers/trucks that run through the streets and roads in the area, coursing damages on the road, what is the council doing about this?

I have to be honest with you; firstly, I do know that satellite is meant to be a residential area, but for one to wake up one day and find oneself in this situation we are in, well, to start with the issue of the road, we already have told the unions of the truck drivers to get the roads done and if you check now that has been taking care of, most of the roads, affected have been redone or patched.

On the other points raised we are looking into each one and in the surest time, we will get them all resolved. With that said, we would also want to add, that the residence them self also need to be environmentally friendly, for instance, there was a case of a resident who build his house direct on the channel were water is to run through, but his building is now blocking its free passage, what do you think would happen, but like I said we are looking into all possibilities.

Your word of advice to the young ones, youths as a whole, towards the election coming?

It’s quite simple, don’t allow yourself to be used or be influence wrongly, either physically or mentally, think straight, only consider the impact and influence that the ruling party”APC” has done to improve the life of the people, don’t allow yourself to be used as a thug, stay away from drugs, it won’t help you, it would only destroy you.
