Plus Rt. Hon. Dogara becomes 2nd Chancellor
Come November Saturday 9th, 2019 Achievers University Owo, Ondo state will be having its combined 8th and 9th Convocation ceremonies for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic sessions where 400 students will be graduating, out of which Twenty-two (22) students will be graduating with first-class honours degree. The long week event kicks off with press briefing on Monday 4th November at the school permanent site.
On Friday 8th November, His Lordship Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese will be delivering the convocation lecture theme Nigeria’s low Achievements by 11 am and it will follow by variety night while on Saturday the convocation takes place.
Briefing journalists in Owo, the Vice-Chancellor of the private university, Engr. Prof Tunji Ibiyemi said no fewer than 400 students will be graduating.
Giving a breakdown of the class of degrees, he said 22 finished in the First Class division, 217, with Second Class Upper, 130 Second Class Lower, while the remaining 31 are Third Class division.
According to him, the first set of postgraduate, totalling 48 will be presented for the award of Master of Science in the following programmes, Accounting, Business Administration and Computer Science.
As part of activities to mark the combine 8th and 9th Convocation ceremonies four illustrious Nigerians will be conferred with Achievers University honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their tremendous contributions to the development of the nation in their different areas of endeavour according to the Vice-Chancellor on Saturday 9th. And they are Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara Former Speaker, House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Executive Governor, Sokoto state, Bishop Hassan Matthew Kukah Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and Mrs Olusola Momoh Vice Chairman, Channels Media Group.
On the same day the immediate past Speaker of House of Reps, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara representing Bogoro/Dass, Nigeria/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency will be installed as the 2nd Chancellor of the great institution.
The Vice-Chancellor also used the opportunity to unveil a number of projects and the school facilities which include the new ultra-modern 810 bed space hostel accommodation for female students, the well equipped Nursing department and its laboratory, the Engineering workshop that will accommodate 200 student at a stretch and the ongoing sport facilities (Olympic standard stadium) which is in line with the school’s continual physical infrastructure development drive.
Also, the institution has formally established academic linkage and collaboration with two foreign universities, in the USA and Kenya for exchange of students and staff and research collaboration.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, he said: “Our MoU with the university in the USA includes 50% fee rebate for any graduate of Achievers University who wants to have their postgraduate programme in that university in the USA.”
A brief visit was made to the Pro-rata Chancellor, Hon. Dr Olabode Ayorinde former House of Reps. lawmaker and during which he unveiled the University 15th years anniversary developmental vision called Vision 12-2023.
