•The Success Story Of Otunba AKIN DOHERTY
One of the eminent personalities who shone at the recent Merit Award ceremony organised by the Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation was Otunba Akin Doherty, the MD of Alpha Beta Consulting LLP.
All eyes were on him as he stood on the stage in his rich Aso Oke Agbada. Many don’t know he is an accomplished Ijebu indigene. He is a Seasoned Administrator, Barrister, Solicitor, and a Chartered Accountant of nearly 40 years experience in the private sector, both locally and internationally, as well as the public service in the areas of Financial Services, Risk Management, Computer Systems Implementation, Marketing, Transformation Strategy, Consulting Services and Business Administration.
Barrister Akinsanya Olugbenga Doherty graduated in Accounting from the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and later qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He, thereafter, trained in the United Kingdom as a Computer Systems Auditor. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree with specialization in Marketing Management from the Obafemi Awolowo University, lIe-lfe. Additionally, he has a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom and became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after successfully completing the Bar Vocational Course at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Institute of Management Consultants, Institute of Credit Administration and a Member of the Nigerian Computer Society, Institute of Directors, and the Nigeria Bar Association Barrister Doherty has also attended many knowledge-enhancing Executive Education Courses at the Inter Africa Consulting Group of South Africa, London School of Economics, Manchester Business School and London Business School.
Otunba Akin Doherty has served as the Honourable Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State. Prior to that appointment, he was the pioneer Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technogy in Lagos State and indeed, in Nigeria following his very successful tenure in Office as the Special Adviser on Information Technology and Management Services to the Lagos State Governor. During his tenure in office, Mr Doherty served in many capacities such as the Representative of South – Western Nigerian States on the Post- Mortem Sub-Committee of the Federation Accounts and Allocation Committee of Nigeria (FAAC); Member, Presidential Committee on Lagos Megacity Region; Member, Interim Implementation Committee on Lagos Metropolitan Development and Governance Project ILMDGP); Chairman, Implementation Committee on Lagos State New Contributory Pension Scheme; Chairman, Committee on Transformation of Lagos State Board of Inland Revenue now known as LlRS.
Barrister Doherty who is currently the Managing Director of Alpha Beta Consulting LLP has also worked with various private-sector organisations including the United Bank for Africa IUBA). the Leventis Conglomerate, Mobil Nigeria, and Mobil Europe in the United Kingdom, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, and Spain. In addition, he is the Chairman, Manchester Consulting Limited, Manchester Construction and Services Limited as well as Wemimo Farms Limited. He is also a Director of Continental Broadcasting Services Limited, as well as Afkar Publishing Company Limited.
A recipient of the Kwame Nkrumah’s Africa Leadership Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Otunba Akin Doherty is married with children.
