Compronians 726 Set, Hold 50th Reunion in Lagos

It was a nostalgic feeling at the 50th-anniversary reunion of the old students (Class of 726) of Comprehensive High School Ayetoro old students, popularly known as Compronians, on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
The Old boys and girls turned out gaily dressed in white, for the event, which was broadcasted live on Zoom, Facebook and Instagram, by Citypeople Magazine.

It was a memorable sight to behold, as old students met for the very first time after decades and held one another in awe of how graceful they have aged.

The school games and raffle was part of a 2-day programme to mark their 50 years of graduating from the school, grand finale award and recognition, as well as thanksgiving celebration at Agidingbi, in Lagos

Mr Sola Adeosun, the President of the set, said though it has not been easy bringing people together after many years of having lived apart, he appreciated the presence of schoolmates in attendance who numbered about 100, and also those who connected from different parts of the world through Facebook, Instagram and Zoom.

He said part of the current efforts to actualise the dream of the association include, providing projects and programmes focused on the growth of students and improvement of the structures in the school to improve learning.

Academically, he said the school has been recording success over the years, especially in its WASSCE, adding that there are also well-trained teachers raising the students’ self-esteem.

He noted that the school was popular in those days in academics, games and sports, adding that the old students were proud about that.

Speaking about the contributions of the association to the school, the chairperson of the event, Mrs Bimpe Adejumobi Apatira, disclosed that there are numerous advantages of the Alumni body, adding that the essence of instituting the Old Students Association which comprises both male and female members is to make sure that the image of the school does not die.

Captain Peter Adenihun, the National Coordinator, Old Students’ Comprehensive High School, commended the 726 set, as a special brand from all the sets and commended their efforts.

He expressed excitement about the 50th anniversary of the 726 sets, saying it will send a positive message to other sets that will next year celebrate their own anniversary.

Mr Adeosun said the old students have become people to reckon with because of the stakeholders’ foresight, adding that the set contributed money to install basic facilities in all the classrooms and the library and changed all the furniture in the staffroom.

The event witnessed a get-together of family and friends, awards for planning committees, and a raffle draw.

The event which was held at Ikeja attracted the students of the 1972 session which include Femi Erubami, Bashorun Otunba Sohibokun. Mrs Bankole, Tosin Osinusi, Otunba Deji Osinbogun, Gbenga Odulja, Chris Uzorchukwu, Abimbola Babarinde, Engineer Tokunbo Sobesan, Gbenga Odusanwo and many more.

Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro was founded in 1963 and has grown to become one of the nation’s citadels of learning which has produced great minds from the soil of Nigeria, who are doing exploits across the world.

The school is situated in Aiyetoro, a district in the Egbado (Yewa North) Division of South Western, Nigeria.
