Only people living under a rock would be ignorant of the new wave that has hit Nigerian music.
After the Amapiano invasion a few years ago, Nigerian youths have taken to a new genre that enables them to sweat out their frustrations on the dance floor. It is a relentless dance culture dubbed Afrohouse, which has also gripped the African continent.
Many DJs are spearheading the movement, and many hit tracks, some that are not even on DSPs as an official release, soundtrack the burgeoning urban culture. One such gem is the ‘Take Me Away’ Remix by DJ Timi (Timothy Adekunle).
DJ Timi’s Afrohouse flip of the cross-continental hit by DJ Obi featuring Ayanfe and Bien gives it a refreshing energy. Though released on Audiomack in 2024, the remix provides dancers and lovers of Afro House a new groove to party with.
The pulsating production from the Welsh-based DJ on ‘Take Me Away’ Remix further edges the ebullient song towards pop bliss and escapism. With this song on any DJ’s set, it is a non-stop party. DJ Timi’s version of the song can rock any party in the world, especially parties with a culture tapped into this new wave dance movement.
The track begins with a steady tempo that gets you acquainted with the groove before it slows down during the hook section. After this point, it explodes into an instrumental of continuous grooves, upping the tempo on the dance floor.
‘Take Me Away’ Remix equals the original by DJ Obi featuring Ayanfe and Bien, two good, technically sound singers. This high-tempo version should be an essential for parties in niche spaces and large concerts desirous of alternative versions of hit records.
DJ Timi got into deejaying during his secondary school days after he was inspired by an older student who deejayed at school programmes.
Officially, his career began in 2019 in the capital city of Abuja.
Since then, the DJ has worked with Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez and organisations and platforms including Race Council Cymru, Black History Wales, Black Welsh Music Awards and OTID Entertainments. He has also worked with notable clients such as S4C, Black History Wales and the Black Welsh Music Awards.
