The Federal High Court sitting in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Wednesday adjourned the case filed by former elected local government officials in Ogun State over the non-payment of their outstanding entitlements.
The suit was instituted by former councillors, chairmen, vice chairmen and supervisory councillors who served between 2016 and 2019 under the administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The claimants are seeking the payment of their outstanding severance allowances, two months’ unpaid salaries and furniture allowances, which they say have remained unpaid since leaving office over seven years ago.
The case was adjourned to a later date by the court for further proceedings.
The former officials have consistently maintained that they are only seeking the payment of their lawful entitlements, especially amid reports that severance packages for local government officials who served between 2021 and 2024 are already being processed.
The Ogun State Government had earlier stated that it would examine the claims and determine the circumstances surrounding the non-payment of the affected former officials.
