•How They Got Him Huge Votes In The NORTH
It is no longer news that President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu recorded huge votes across the North, in the just concluded General Elections held on 25th February, 2023.
Tinubu shocked everyone with the huge numbers he recorded, in the key Northern States like Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe, Gombe, Jigawa, Borno, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Bauchim Kogi, Sokoto and other Northern states. Where he didn’t come 1st, he came 2nd, making great showing at the polls.
Tinubu made history as being the first South-West presidential candidate to record such a brilliant performance. Many really didn’t believe he will do well across the Northern states, the way he did.
The reasons are obvious. He got a lot of top politicians to work for him in the North, starting from the 9 APC Northern Governors who supported him right from the pre-APC presidential primaries stage, when they came together as one solid bloc to support power shift to the South and stood their grounds that Tinubu should be the party’s choice.
The 9 APC Northern governors are those from Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, Kebbi, Plateau, Nassarawa, Borno, Niger and Kogi (North Central).
They are Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, Alhaji Aminnu Bello Masari of Katsina State, Alhaji Yahya Bello of Kogi State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Alhaji Mutawalle of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Alhaji Mohamad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, and Alhaji Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Babangana Zulum of Borno State and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaja of Gombe State.
Many of them helped Asiwaju Tinubu get good votes in their various states. They all stood up for Power Shift when it mattered most. Since the results came out, many party members have been appreciating the 9 Northern Governors who started the journey right before the primary elections.
These governos and others joined the train after the primary election. It is not only the governors who helped Tinubu win the elections, many other political juggernauts also helped like the former Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura and former Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff.
Unknown to many the last General election, was a big battle in the North, between those who support Powershift and those opposed to it. The first group is made up of the APC Northern Governors, while the 2nd group is represented by the Old political players in the North, many of whom backed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate.
It was a tight race fought between the 2 groups in the core Northern areas, but the El-Rufai group won. They insisted that as men of honour they won’t betray Tinubu and that power must shift to the South.
To enable Tinubu win, he relocated to Abuja and spent a lot of time with Kano, with Gov. Gaduje & El-Rufai, in Kaduna. He also spent ample time with Gov. Matawalle.
Many don’t know that Tinubu has old structures in the North made of Emirs and retired politicians that he has known since he was a Senator in the early 90s. Traditionally, he has friends across the North and he made personal visits to them to ask them to work for him. Many of them helped him.
