WHO IS MRS. KAFILAT AWOYEMI?
Mrs. Kafilat Awoyemi is a trained lawyer turned entrepreneur and the Founder and Creative Director of Pleasant Cakes and Treats Limited. She is a passionate baker, mentor, and businesswoman who has built one of Lagos’ most respected cake and dessert brands.
I design and create bespoke cakes, desserts, and pastries through my company, Pleasant Cakes and Treats. I also mentor and train aspiring bakers through my empowerment initiative, Lifted Bakers and Beyond.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
Pleasant Cakes and Treats started as a home-based business and has grown into a thriving bakery with multiple outlets in Lagos. We specialise in custom cakes for celebrations, gourmet desserts, and innovative pastries, all made with a deep commitment to quality, creativity, and customer satisfaction.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
I have been in the baking industry for over a decade, combining creativity, skill, and consistent innovation to build a brand clients trust.
IF NOT CATERING, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?
I’m a lawyer by training, so I likely would have pursued a career in law or legal consultancy. However, baking has always been my true passion, and I’m grateful I followed my heart.
HOW HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?
The journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Starting small from home, I had to navigate growth, customer expectations, staff development, and business systems. But with resilience and grace, we’ve built a brand that’s now widely recognised and appreciated.
TELL US YOUR BACKGROUND.
I studied Law and practised briefly before fully diving into the baking industry. My passion for creativity and hands-on artistry inspired the transition from law to entrepreneurship. Over time, I trained in baking and cake design, continually improving my skills to meet global standards.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE AS A CATERER?
Some of the major challenges include rising costs of ingredients, power supply issues, managing a growing team, and maintaining consistency in quality as the business expands. However, we’ve learned to adapt and innovate to stay ahead.
ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE GOING INTO YOUR KIND OF BUSINESS?
Start with passion and excellence. Learn the craft well, stay consistent, and be ready to embrace challenges with a growth mindset. Also, treat your business like a business—get training in entrepreneurship, customer service, and financial management.
WHAT ARE THE FEEDBACK FROM YOUR CLIENTS?
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Clients love our attention to detail, the taste and beauty of our products, and the personalised service we offer. Many say our treats not only look good but taste even better, which is our constant goal.
A MESSAGE TO YOUR CLIENTS.
Thank you for your patronage and support. We will continue to win your hearts by keeping our high standards, which hopefully keep you coming back for more.
