On Thursday 7th October 2021, the Lagos state government held a befitting Commendation service in honour of the late military administrator of the state, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu . The event took place at the Chapel of Christ the Light Interdenominational Church at Alausa, in Ikeja, Lagos.
Kanu, a native of Ovim, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia state died in Lagos on January 13, 2021at the age of 77. He was once the Military Administrator in Imo state and Lagos state respectively.
Until his death, he was among Nigeria’s eminent Democrats, activists and highly detribalized personalities. While he was in active service, the brilliant Kanu diligently served in diverse positions in naval command. He served as Chief of Personnel, Naval Headquarters; Flag Officer, Eastern Fleet; Flag Officer, Naval Training Command; Chief of Naval Operations, Naval Headquarters and Director of Logistics, Joint Operations.
The commendation service held in his honour was a remarkable one as the order of service saw quite a number of soul-inspiring admonitions and lessons learnt from the life and times of the departed.
The service of the day was coordinated by Rt. Rev. O. O. Babalola, Bishop of the Methodist Church of the Trinity Council, Rev. Dr Dele Ajayi and Venerable Ezekiel Oluwadare.
The service saw the presence of eminent personalities across Nigeria. Worthy of Note among them were the Lagos governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat; Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde; Head of Service, Mr Muri Okunola; Lagos Senator Oluremi Tinubu; wife of the late governor of Lagos, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Mrs Abimbola Jakande; the Chief Judge of Lagos State ably represented; former Lagos Governor, Brigadier General Raji Rasaki; exco members of NADECO led by Chief Ayo Opadokun, as well as the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos Chapter, Rt. Rev. Dr Stephen Tunde Victor Adegbite.
Also gracing the event were representatives of Abia state government, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akinolu was also represented by the esteemed white-capped chiefs, Service Chiefs, Heads of different Security Agencies, Civil Servants, eminent men of God, and not leaving out members of the prominent socio-cultural group, Ndigbo Lagos, students and members of the public. Mrs Gladys Ndubuisi Kanu, the widow of the late Admiral was there with other family members.
The immediate family members of the late Real Admiral were called out for special prayers as the men of God on the pulpit blessed them as they continued the burial programmes of their beloved father.
