I walked down to this bastard’s house with my two legs, if not, I would’ve unleashed my father on him for what he did to me.
“Do you have a doctor or a clinic in mind?” I asked him.
“No, not really. But I can talk to my friends, they are more familiar with this environment than I am. You know I spend more time in Lagos than I do here.”
“So, when do you hope to do that? When do you hope to talk to them and go fix an appointment with the doctor?” I was desperate for answers.
“Don’t worry, I will get on it right away.”
“So, when I should I come back for feedback, later today or tomorrow morning?”
“No, Rosie, give me time. You know I will also have to run around to raise money for the abortion, so I will need a couple of days, please,” he pleaded.
“So, like how many couple of days are you looking at? And I hope you realize I may not be able to hide this from my mum much longer before she finds out herself what is really going. It was because she suspected I was ill that I landed at the clinic in the first place before the doctor now confirmed I am pregnant,” I explained to him.
“And you’re sure the man won’t tell your parents?” Bobby asked, obviously scared.
“No, he won’t. He can’t. At least, not for now.”
“What makes you so sure he won’t?” he asked.
“Because the man wants to sleep with me in exchange for the money I am supposed to pay for the abortion.”
‘What??” Bobby exclaimed, shocked to the marrow.
“Why did you shout? At least, he still has the decency to ask me, you chose to drug me instead, now see where it has landed you. See the kind of trouble you’ve gotten me into!” my anger was coming to 5he fore again.
“Now, listen, I will be here in two days time. Make sure you have arranged for me a clinic where I can go and do the abortion. We have only a short time on our hands, otherwise, my mum would soon find out what is going on! Two days and no more, that’s all I’m giving you!”
I had to sound as though I knew exactly what I was doing, but the truth is, I didn’t know what I was doing at all. I was just trying to give Bobby the impression I had everything well figured out. I didn’t want him to get the impression that I was scared and helpless.
“Bobby, talk to me now, do we have a deal or not? You are not saying anything!” I snapped at him.
He was still shell shocked about all that was unfolding before him. Everything seemed like a movie to him. He couldn’t believe he has actually gotten a girl married and could become a father if he didn’t do anything drastic about it.
“No problem, Rosie, I have heard you. You have my word, in two days I would’ve gotten everything arranged for you….”
“Not just for me o, it’s for both of us!” I’d thrown at him. “This will affect me just as much as it will affect you. Only difference is that you won’t be the one to carry the baby for nine months.” I reminded him, just in case he was starting to think this was my cross alone to bear.
Bobby nodded nervously, “Yes, you’re right, it’s actually for both of us, not just you alone….”
“Good, I just thought we needed to be on same page. Now, if you are still in the mood, you can go back in there to continue with your party, your girlfriend.” I was just about deciding to take my leave when Bobby decided to ask me the most stupid question I ever heard.
“But, Rosie, please, I have a question to ask you…” Bobby said to me, his voice stuttering.
“Yes, go on, I’m listening,” I retorted, looking straight at him.
“This pregnancy that you’re…that you’re talking about….how are you even… how are you sure I am the one responsible for…..?”
I didn’t let him finish the stupid sentence he was making. I lashed out at him and slapped him hard across the face. It was a thunderous slap. He didn’t believe what he hit him.
“God! Rosie, you slapped me?” Bobby exclaimed, holding the side of his face where the slap landed. His eyes had turned crimson red from the hot slap.
“And I will slap you a second time if one more stupid word comes out of that thing you call your mouth!” I spat at him, anger running through every vein in my body. “What do you take me for, a street dog? A whore? How dare you even suggest that I had gone to sleep with somebody else after you raped me! Are you sick? Are you out of your mind? Are you…..”
“It’s okay, dear, please, I’m sorry, I did not mean it that way, please, forgive me,” Bobby pleaded, but I was still too angry to listen to his plea.
“You don’t mean what that way? You have only expressed what’s actually been on your mind all along,” I’d fired at him, my entire frame trembling with anger. “So, because I came to your house and you used that opportunity to drug me and rape me, you think that’s how I go about getting raped, right?”
“No, Rosie, that’s not what I meant, I honestly did not mean that way…” Bobby was trying to keep his voice down so the people inside the house would not know what’s going on outside. That’s probably why he quietly took the slap I gave him without considering getting angry with me as an option.
I calmed down. He had behaved himself by not trying to make a scene. “You should thank your lucky stars that father is yet to find out about this, otherwise, maybe its inside the torture room where he will keep you that you will start coming up with names of imaginary people that you think slept with me or raped me like you did!”
“I said I’m sorry, Rosie, please, keep your voice down” Bobby pleaded yet again. “I promise I will do all I can within two days and…..”
“Bobby!” a female voice called from inside. Bobby stopped what he was saying and was looking over his shoulder to see who it was that was calling out his name. Then, she emerged from within, it was the same annoying girl that was sitting on Bobby’s legs inside the room!
