  • The Story Of The 3 Popular Friends

This is the story of 3 popular friends who have become brothers and who have become valued members of Lagos NURTW. It is the story of MC Oluomo, Sego & Koko Zaria. The 3 of them have been in the news for the past few weeks, over the Lagos Chapter of the Lagos National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which was thrown into a state of confusion for weeks. There was growing uncertainty about who will be the new Chairman. But all that seems to have been resolved amicably. Now, the former Chairman MC Oluomo  has handed over to his successor, Alhaji Mustapha Sego.

Sego’s reign begins from this month, while his predecessor, Alhaji Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo will go to contest for NURTW  National Presidency in Abuja.

A few weeks back, MC Oluomo announced after a meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other key stakeholders at Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, that he will hand over to Sego.

Oluomo who attended the meeting in a white native attire, said that he has agreed to cede power to Mustapha Adekunle (Sego), the former Treasurer of the union in the state, and that he is going further to contest for NURTW President.

He said that the decision and changes would take effect before the end of January 2024.

Sources at the meeting said that Oluomo was prevailed upon to contest for the presidency of the union.

Aside Sanwo-Olu, others at the meeting were Sanwo- Olu’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the governor on Transportation, Commissioner of Police in Lagos and the Director of DSS in Lagos, Dapo Amao.

The Lagos State chapter has been thrown into crisis after some leaders of the union in the state passed a vote of no confidence on Oluomo few days after he was re-elected for a second term a month ago.

It was gathered that Oluomo decided to step down after mounting pressure from most of his powerful friends and influential figures in Lagos.

A powerful king from Lagos, who is very close to the Mr President, was said to have also prevailed on him.

What made the crisis worse was that 80% of branch chairmen in Lagos had stopped remitting money to the union’s state coffers, resulting in dwindling resources.

MC Oluomo’s announcement to cede power to Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, the former Treasurer of the union in the state, helped resolve the leadership tussle.

Adekunle, famously known as Sego has taken office as the new Chairman of the NURTW in Lagos State.

Before the final settlement, the Transport Union boss convinced his main men, Sego and Kudety (Sulaimon Ojoro), to back his becoming the next National President of the NURTW.

“The plan was that MC Oluomo would become the National President and Sego would take over as the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter which is considered the juiciest spot nationwide” sources disclosed.

Insiders say contrary to the agreement, moves were made to put in place a structure that would keep the old players in charge of the Lagos NURTW through a backdoor arrangement.

Sego reportedly kicked against the abnomalcy that would have seen him “caged” as State Chairman by taking the matter to “higher decision-makers” in the state.

The good thing about all these political games is that all is now back to normally and they are all friends again.
