The covid 19 for me has been an eye opener to the many crippling factors in our Nigerian society today . To start with, surprisingly enough we did start very well, simply for the fact that while many nations kept struggling with the reality of containment and quarantine , we had started the closed door policy and that has been a vital strength in all the pandemonium .
Some people alluded to the fact they confronted no checks on travelling from westernised countries till they got to the shores of Lagos, kudos to Governor Sanwo olu. I guess having a wife , in the medical proffesion has been a huge plus being immensely helpful . Reinforced by our hands on Commisioner for Health, therefore if you agree with me that a massive part of Nigeria has its roots in Lagos , this stance was invariably spasmodic reflecting in all the other states.
The fact that we are a nation of travellers , while voyeurism will suffice for some , our business acumen drives us to the actual space . Inevitably in good time corona was imported , we slowly manifestly became contaminated .
As a nation with strong beliefs, call it religion or escapades we are still standing through the challenges. Our undermined and inherently ignored potent herbs had invariably come in very useful, especially as many testimonies were recorded by our very own , from various,countries of refuge abroad.Basically revealing the fact that many constantly held on to the residue of secretely employing the usage .
The fact that we have been adamantly resistant in applauding or even packaging our products for recognition for commercial , health remedies and research remains a catastrophic tragic flaw . For centuries for example our shea butter was sold to us at the body shop and diiferent foreign products celebrated its properties for so long as we appreciated only imported ointments only .
Fundamentally , Its only in the past, like two decades that we have began to condescend to consider its properties and this believe it or not is what is mostly used at hair dressers and even as body lubricants these days . The essential nutrients for the body and its versatility far outweighs all the products we have invested thousands of foreign currency to purchase over the years .
I saw also a Nigerian woman selling it to the Chinese during this Corona plight as they have seen it as an antedote to the bodys well being . The question begging for an answer is why now, has she not always had it . Then again presumably we as a race have the tendency and mindset of being ashamed of our own giftings , coupled with a psyche of not being proud of our God given blessings.
This in actual fact is why the good Lord in his benevollence endow nations. As I Studied my Bible it is evident that part of the wisdom displayed by King Solomon was practically expressed through International trade, we through his business acumen and matchless riches learn that nations must utilise natural products and project them through trade.
No other country can do that for us and that is why we drove out Colonialism. Every nation seeks for their own advancements , which emphatically relegates the talk and ideology that perharps we should have held on to colonial powers as totally foolish or a non starter mechanism when it comes to Economic development.
My observation was with disgust the at futility in the weak attempt to fumigate and disinfect our enviroment making one wonder at the resultant cause and effects . The initiative and application witnessed caused one to conclude this must be nothing short of a curse.
The fact it was visibly picturesque and the display of the same hypothesis with great results and returns in other countries were evident in.its effective dissemination , got me gasping and asking if we have educated people in government . Fumigating machines for homes were comically being used and only about two of these in an area , translating to.mean the idea was to be seen to be, doing something . My Dad, Proffesor Oyediran always told us , what was worth doing was worth doing well .
This approach no doubt should be the watch word of every government . Rather than just doing for doing for flippancy sake, excellence must be the mantra and must be constant. Ignorance to some is bliss but i learnt as a Christian we can not plead ignorance before God, it culminates to a no defense as,he says therefore man you are inexcussable as the environment speaks of his works .
The question again will be to ask then is what has been done as we saw nations disinffect with tankers and massive sprinklers.Obviously the next move , we will be doing is scrambling to purchade those things in the aftermath . Translating to the retrogressive , elementary typical practices , when we have tankers, within our reach also ample disinfecting chemicals , necessitating us to improvise.
Most of the western nations have not dealt with plaques and have zilch experience of any pandemic since 1918, but have resorted to create and use their God given brains to resolve what has a tendency to wipe out communities . I saw on someones page Nigerians almost stoning one of the officials who came to spray a massive area with.one of this dimunitive devices.
Apparently enigmatic and valuably impressive has been the contribution.of individuals and companies to this cause . The generosity exuded shows that many realise that one can only thrive with a healthy population . The philantrophic and beneficial qualities appears minimal provokes one to question suspiciously the motive especially looking at the fact that the populace can not record the effect.
Many say these crop of people could not envisage the plight of the masses as they have been estranged to the realities of the lower eschelon in the societty over the years ,and frankly the idea is to once again , gain and curry the favour of the government of the day . The money keeps rolling in, even with the rantings of the populace .
A popular adage elaborates that its total insensitivity to ignore the needs of a village, Church , your community taking your money to another place with no connectivity. This is especially coming up, as the nation watches US, UK and even some other Countries cater for their own people with finances and food.
Lastly is the issue of burials, Thank God for all those that survived the pandemic even in the Royalty. Can any one imagine that the Royalty or a leader will be granted a state funeral in a crisis in any developed natiion ? We really have trillions of miles playing catch ups with development and sanity . My God is not a respecter of persons as it so happens neither is this pandemic.
What we were confronted with and have experienced this week can only be described as insensitive, irresponsible and alarming . Thus translating to abject and degenerating reasoning without much apologies one must conclude that many are cursed and have no business in places of authority .
A group or a leadership that deals so carelesly with lives , ignoring precautionary measures concerning the preservation of humanity can never earn the respect of the people .,As a nation we must look to God to deliver and save our Country Nigeria, we are not amused and manifestly sooner or later God will overturn and overturn such incongruities untill his will is established in Jesus Matchless NameÂ
