…And 40th Anniversary & Gala Night
It was an evening of relaxation and fun on Sunday, 21st May, 2023 when the OOU Alumni (Lagos Chapter) held it’s Reunion & 40th anniversary and Gala Night. By late afternoon of that special day, members had converged to rejoice and share memories of their old days in the school. The event was held at the Ibis Hotels , 23, Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos, owned by an Alumni of OOU.
The event kicked – off around 5.45pm with the MC Jide Ogunlana popularly known as MC Jide old school and co MC, Baffy, Both did what they know how to do best. They are both alumni of the school.
The red carpet session had begun a few minutes earlier and members took time to take group pictures with former classmates. Others exchanged witty banters with their old friends.
A short prayer session was observed, shortly after the Alumni Chairman, Mr Olabode Seriki took time to explain the development in the Lagos Chapter. He said, there will be rotation of venues among members, meetings will hold monthly for the next 2 quarters of the year, and he also recognized and appreciated Opeyemi Odumosi and Iyabo Ojo for their support during the alumni reunion which was held in December, 2022. He duly welcomed everyone present.
The event witnessed the coming together of pioneer students of Lagos State Alumni of 40 years to the present graduants and friends who have gone ahead to record numerous life accomplishments in their various fields, 40 years after the pioneer Almumni graduated from the school. It was also put together for the Launch/unveiling of the OOU 65million hostel project and Gala night. Awards of excellence were presented to some Alumni Executives and Members.
Speaking at the event, the deputy VC (Administration) OOU, Prof. Adekoya brought greetings from the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Agboola whom he mentioned was indisposed, and as at few days before then was planning to attend but, due to his health, he could not make it. He congratulated the Alumni and reminded everyone about the 40 years reunion which started since January this year with a Press Conference by the VC. He said, the program still continues from next month, June. He appreciated the Principal Officers who were present ,in person of the school Registrar, Dr Femi Ogunwomoju, the school Librarian, Dr Oduwole, Dr Makinde and everyone present,encouraging them in all they are doing to make the school comfortable for learning for the new generation.
Speaking also at the event was Dr Makinde Ademola Stephen Kayode (Mask) the National President. He said, “the journey that made us to gather here wouldn’t have been this possible if we did not have a visionary Pro Chancellor because I can tell you, my assumption of office as the president has not been too good but, we thank God that we weathered the storm. For the vision of the current Pro Chancellor, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, the journey was easy. “He encouraged members to donate towards the launching of the hostel project. He added that as a member of the School Council who goes to the school for council meetings, he knows what he is talking about. He emphasised that the UK Chapter have done their own launching, Abeokuta, Ibadan and few others have also done theirs and at the end of the whole thing, they will put everything together and give back to the school, reiterating that no kobo will be spent wastefully, but to be used for the project of the hostel. So, he pleaded to everyone to, please,do well, be kind to the school and be generous in their giving.
Mr Soji Odedina,Pioneer Alumni Chairman, Lagos Chapter, took to the stage to anchor the launching of the project. He showed the plan drawn by an architect on a screen of how the hostel will look. He said, the Alumni needs a sum of 65 million to accomplish the dream project. He started by making his own donation and all other members followed suit.

As is common in such a gathering, members went away well entertained and renewed acquaintances with a general feeling of staging an even bigger edition in the coming years.
