  • Will He Run In LAGOS Or OGUN?

The race for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Lagos and Ogun State, respectively, is getting more interesting by the day, as Lagos House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, is being tipped as a strong contender.

There have been rumors of Rt. Hon. Obasa declaring his intention to run for the Lagos State Governor in 2027. Already, there have been groups of people, associations, and bodies who have been silently mobilizing and working for the Speaker’s 2027 Guber ambition. Leading this is a group called Obasa Youth Alliance (OYA) in Agege.

The Speaker, who celebrated his 52nd birthday a few weeks ago, revealed why he may run for the No 1 seat in the state. He made this known during an event organized to mark his birthday.

According to him, this is paramount against focusing on his political ambitions.

He said that the party’s decision was superior to personal ambitions.

“Though I am not too young to become Lagos State governor, I want to let you know that we will continue to work toward the progress of the party rather than focusing on personal ambitions.

“We will not stop in whatever we are doing, particularly when it comes to the issue of mandates. It is not about personal aspirations.

“It’s not because we want to become something or aspire to become governor of Lagos State. No!

“Our concern is to develop our party, to encourage our party in the grassroots and all over the state. That is our major concern. “This will tell those who believe that what we are doing is purely about selfishness to let us correct their impression.

“We are party people. We believe in the party, and we have reason to deliver positively,” he said.

Right now, no fewer than 3 groups and associations have started mobilizing for him underground.

On social media, many individuals have started creating awareness about the next election and why Speaker Obasa should fight for the no1 seat in the state. Having heard several rumors of him heading to the senate after in the past, Mr. Obasa, who had been touted to run for governorship in Lagos State in the last two elections, is now determined to test his popularity in the next gubernatorial elections in the state.

The Speaker, we hear, is also open to joining the Ogun State governorship elections come 2027, as there are a couple of people ahead of Mr Obasa in Lagos who may be considered ahead of him for the post.

In the last few years, Mudashiru Obasa has been doing a lot in Abeokuta to compliment what his friend, the governor has done. He is said to be a close friend of the current governor, Dapo Abiodun. They are very close, and they attend each others events.

According to a reliable source, Obasa has just built a house in Abeokuta, as a way of tellimg the Egbas that he is one of them.

Some say he is putting everything in place to silidify his chance of becoming the next governor of the state but he doesnt want to disclose his plans yet as he wants to keep his card close to his chest.

Going by Obasa’s closeness to Governor Dapo Abiodun and his rich pedigree in politics he may likely emerge as APC guber candidate in Ogun State ahead of Senator Olamilekan Yayi.

It is a known fact that Senator Yayi who served as Senator for Ogun West since 2023 had previously served as the Senator from Lagos West from 2015 to 2023. From 2011 to 2015, he was the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts.

Speaker Obasa believes if it had worked for Senator Yayi, he too has a chance to accomplish his mission.

The Senator primarily wants to become Governor as an indigene of a low-vote area of Yewa, which is part of the only region yet to produce a Governor since the state was created (1976). Giving Yewa the opportunity was supposed to be part of the appeal of his gubernatorial ambition, but recent political unravelings are forcing a shift in strategy,” according to emerging details.

Yayi’s strategy is to be informally accepted as a candidate from Ogun Central by decision-makers, as part of a plan to fit into the arrangement between Ogun East and Ogun Central, taking turns on where the Governor comes from,” insiders say. In the last few years, Senator Yayi has empowered hundreds of Ogun indegens through it foundation and presently, he’s the most popular among contenters to succeed Governor Dapo in Ogun State.

An insider also confirmed that Speaker Obasa believes he had a great chance ahead of Yayi who has been struggling to get Governor Dapo blessing to succeed him as Ogun State governor. We were made to believe that Mr Obasa is a bosom friend of Gov Dapo and they are always seen at each other’s event in and outside Lagos.

There is also another obstacle that may work or prevent him from clinching the ticket. Everybody knows that the next person that will succeed Gov Dapo Abiodun will be President Tinubu anointed candidate, so when Senator Yayi left Lagos politics to contest in Ogun a few years ago, it was rumored that it was President Tinubu who told him to go back and position himself ahead of 2027 guber election in the state and he may as well gets President blessing but Speaker Obasa too has a big unfluence on the President.

He’s Asiwaju boy and a very loyal one to the core.
