Lionel Messi has been named alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar on the three-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Men’s Player Award.
They were announced in London on Friday.
The Brazilian star had joined Paris Saint-Germain in a 222 million euros ($266 million) deal from Barcelona.
Ronaldo had led Real Madrid to the La Liga title and a third Champions League victory last season.
He also won the European Championship with Portugal.
The Portuguese skipper has won the Ballon d’Or four times and the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2008.
Messi scored 54 goals last season as Barcelona won the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
