The Rotary Club of Akowonjo on August 19, 2024, welcomed the District Governor, DG (9111), Rotarian Dr. Wole Kukoyi, and his entourage to the club.
The event which was held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja started with the club’s tour and commissioning of various projects.
It started with the Rotary happy hour, in which the club members, Rotarians from different clubs, friends, and guests were served meals and drinks.
The meeting commenced around 7:43 pm and the president opened the meeting. It is followed by the national and rotary anthem. The president thanked the DG for honouring them with his presence and promised to work according to his team in bringing service to humanity.
In his welcome address, the irresistible president said that he is delighted to welcome everyone, especially the DG and his entourage, who have taken time out of their busy schedule to visit them. “Your presence is a testament to the strong bond between our club and the district.
“I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members for two significant events. Firstly, our District Governor’s visit is a fantastic opportunity for us to share our achievements, receive guidance, and strengthen our connection with the district.
“Secondly, I invite you to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program, scheduled from August 24th to September 1st. RYLA is a life-changing experience that empowers young leaders, and I encourage you all to be part of it. Your participation, enthusiasm, and dedication are crucial to our success.
“Let us come together to make these events a resounding success. Your presence, enthusiasm, and dedication are crucial to our club’s growth and impact. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you all at these events,” Rotarian Dare said.
The DG said that he is delighted to be at the event and he is happy to work with over 7 members from Akowonjo in his team. “I’m pleased with the welcome and entertainment I’ve gotten from the Rotary Club of Akowonjo. The presentment and his family were so amazing and they welcomed me and my team with open arms, I pray that the Lord bless them abundantly.
“The most important thing is that I have over 7 of them in my team and I know they will serve the people well. I will not just visit this once but will be coming often because of the things I saw that you people are doing and I know that many of the projected projects would be completed before I leave office in 2025,” the DG said.
Rotarian Dr, Kayode Akinlade, MD Krown Hospital and a free donor to the rotary family stood up and said that he has known and been friends with the DG for over 40 years. “The DG has been my friend from way back and we practice the same profession. He came to visit my club and he won’t be going without something.
“I have a gift for him and not just one, but 3 of them. This I to show gratitude and to also congratulate and wish him well as the DG of our district” Dr Akinlade said.
During the presentation of these gifts, the president also said that he had gifts for the DG and his entourages, which he gave all of them and thanked them for the warm visit.
The event ended around 9:14 pm with the DG, his entourage, and the president having a photo session with the members.
