The Story Of My Life At 90

  • Prince SAM ADEDOYIN Tells City People

As you read this right now, popular industrialist Prince Samuel Adedoyin is in a happy mood. He turned 90 this week and he has been receiving a lot of birthday messages and gifts. His Whatsapp is full of goodwill messages and gifts keep pouring in. The Agbamu born Prince celebrated his new age with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 7th Dec. It also featured a Praise & Worship Service on Thursday 4th December.

Last Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, City People visited Papa at his Lagos office and we met him, busy with a lot of paper work, as business calls rolled in one after the other. We found behind the desk, a man who does not look 90, in any way. We were taken aback at how refreshingly young he looked. At 90, Papa is still very much active and agile. He still goes to work daily and still oversees his big business empire, Doyin Investments.

At 90, he is still very sharp and smart. He is active Online. He has embraced Technology. He is IT Savvy. He is also active on Whatsapp, Facebook and Youtube. And Papa will educate you about A1. At 90, he is blessed with good health. He walks briskly, without a walking stick. And he is mentally active. He only uses reading glasses when need be. His power of recall is superb, as Papa will regale you with stories of what happened when he was 13.

You need to see him at a meeting with his managers, as he brilliantly brain storms with them. And wait for this! He is on to new business ventures. At 90 he still brims with new ideas and follows global news from the 2 large size television sets in his expansive office.

Of course, he is imbued with a lot of wisdom. And he usually dispenses it freely. He is always deeply philosophical in his analysis. Anytime you sit down with Papa, its like going back to school. He will take you back to events that happened years ago and tells you the lessons.

At 90, very little has changed about Prince Samuel Adedoyin. He has become a lot more hard working and loves you to be logical in your reasoning and presentation to him. That is what usually gets his managers in trouble with him, often times, because Papa usually expects a co-ordinated explanation and response from those who appear before him.

At 90, Prince Sam Adedoyin is deeply religious. He is a Christian and likes to enrich his responses to questions with references to God. As he joins other nonagenarians, Prince Sam Adedoyin still holds on to his dream, that the way to go economically, is Industrialisation. He has been an advocate of the need for Nigeria to become fully industrialised. He still thinks it is possible. He feels all hope is not lost.

That is why he is still very active in Agriculture. He is a big farmer, with big farmlands in Kwara State.

Below are excerpts of his chat with City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE.

How do you feel as you mark your milestone birthday? How does it make you feel turning 90?

I thank God Almighty. I am happy. I am glad.

What’s on your mind,  as you celebrate? What are the things that you are thinking about right now?

Nothing is on my mind. I just thank God for what He has done. What do you want to be on my mind other than thanking God?

Looking back, at all the challenges you’ve faced and how you’ve been able to resolve them, is that why you said you need to thank God, sir?

I would say I am somebody who appreciates anything that God does in his life.

We have seen people who didn’t live up to a year or died at 10 years old or 50 years old. I just lost my brother who was 83. And yet God spared my life.

So, how would I not thank God?

You still look refreshingly young. And I’m wondering how you have you been able to keep looking agile and young and vibrant as before?

That is why I’m thanking God, because if I tell you there’s anything extra that I’m doing, that will not be correct.

This is why I have nothing to say other than thanking God Almighty.

Looking at you again, not much has changed about you, sir. How have you also been able to keep going?

You know, I keep on working, keep on trying to look after myself.

But like I told you, if you write an exam and you pass, somebody kept your brain sharp to be able to pass that test, which in my case it is only God Almighty.

Over the last several years, you’ve kept a routine that is almost straightforward. I mean, you’re always at your place of work as early as 9am, you eat at a particular time, you rest when you need to.

You keep to a Timetable. And I’m wondering how did you develop that and how are you also able to keep to it?

Well, you remember I’m self-employed. If you are self-employed, you can rotate how you want to work.

You can come to the office when you want. You can close when you want. And always by registering in your mind that work doesn’t kill.

And there’s always a reward for hard work. So if you know that if you put in a little more effort more, it has its reward. I think it will not be difficult.

How did you transit from the old school to the new age?

You have to join them if you don’t want to be  left out. People are thinking of advancing more in different areas. Perhaps, some people are thinking of what will change in future. There is AI.

And I think that is the way the world is going that is how it will continue.

I have good people around me. I am not a Computer expert but I have learnt a little about what I can do. I tried to cope with what I learnt, but it’s not that I can learn much, much better.

I learn from some of my children, that if I had become computer literate then, maybe I would have done better than what I’ve been able to do. But they too have not even reached where I am.

So, my advice is that everybody should do his best and then leave the rest.

What are the things you always share with your grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they are around you? What are the things you say to them because like you said, sir, they may have the current knowledge, but they don’t have the wisdom that comes with old age and all of that. How do they balance out all of these?

They have their own wisdom also.

Some are doing very well, applying it in the type of business that they learnt, trying to use their knowledge in computer and some are even adapting to AI service. But what we can say is that as time goes on, things will be better.

But as of now, me and you should use what we have, learn more, so that we can meet them as they are advancing in knowledge.

What has changed about Doyin Investments. Have you added new sectors?

No new company. When you came here last, we were into Oil and Gas.

And that’s the latest thing that we are doing. We are into Hospitality. Not much of a new addition.

The only thing is we are trying to grow Agric. We are farming Kola, we are farming Cocoa, producing fish like snails, like pigs and so on. Apart from the real fruits, which we do much more in Kwara State.

And sir, how do you also see the state of insecurity in the country today? What’s your view, sir?

We are praying for a more secured country. We want a country where there will be Peace, freedom of speech and freedom of movement without any of these killers or whatever you call them. God will help us.
