Nigeria has lost one of its most accomplished journalists, public relations experts and cultural icons, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who reportedly passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 76.
The late Oloye Lekan Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, was a highly respected media professional, renowned public relations practitioner, accomplished author and foremost custodian of Yoruba history and culture.
According to family sources, he will be laid to rest on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Throughout his distinguished career, Alabi made remarkable contributions to journalism, public relations, cultural advocacy and public service. He served as Chief Press Secretary to several governors of the old Oyo State, earning widespread admiration for his professionalism, intellectual depth and commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
Beyond public service, he was celebrated as a prolific writer, historian and cultural ambassador whose works and advocacy helped document and promote the history, traditions and values of Ibadanland and the Yoruba nation. His immense contributions to the media industry and the preservation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
His passing has been described as a great loss to the journalism profession, the public relations community, Oyo State and the entire country.
