This is the story of the 3 Osinusi brothers, namely: Otunba Wahab Osinusi, Chief Bode Osinusi and Alhaji Kamorudeen Osinusi. Both are blood brothers. The first 2 brothers have passed on to greater glory, remaining the last. One thing all of them have in common is that they were top socialites in those good old days. But age mellowed them. Chief Bode Osinusi, who was a great fashionista in his days died a few years back.

Otunba Wahab Osinusi (who is a lawyer and hotelier) turned 90 a few month, (in June) back and died a few days ago, leaving behind the Great Sir K who many call Sir K Orilonise.

But lets tell you about Alhaji Kamoru Oshinusi, the Lagos socialite who has dominated the Lagos social scene for over 50 years. Who doesn’t know Sir K? They are from a major ruling house in Ijebu known as Fidipote royal family.

You will need to be new in the Lagos social scene not to know Sir K. Is it for his fashion statement or for his luxurious lifestyle? Just like his elder brother, late Prince Bode Osinusi, the husband of Princess Afusat Osinusi who loves to adorn his attire with matching pocket handkerchiefs, shoe and cap, his younger brother, Sir K loves white attires and luxury jewellery. He is fond of his customised chain with Sir K written on the pendant. He also likes to carry his designer bag. There is no doubt that the Osinusis are highly fashion conscious.

Sir K was many musicians delight years back and many of them including King Sunny Ade sang his praises in the 80s 90. Sunny Ade and His African Beats dedicated a whole track to him? “You can see the crowd. The whole place was filled up with great people. We really thank God”.

How does he feel about the passing of his brother?

“I feel sad. But at the same time I am happy. Because of his age, 90 years is by the grace of God. We are all lucky in our family. My brother Wahab Olaniran Osinusi has done very well, during our growing up the love he has for me can not be comprehend and I always cherich it. If I continue to tell you about my brother till tomorrow I will have something to tell you. Because what he has done for me alone is countless, talkless what he has done for other people, but I thank God for life.

Out of the 3 of them he and late Otunba Bode are the socialite of the family, he was a beat quite. How did he manage that relationship?

“He is not that quite. It is because he is based in Ijebu-Ode and we were living in Lagos. But Bode is late now. I am the only one left out of the 3.

But we still have other brothers in the families. There was a time when I was in the 24 position in the family, but today we are now 4 or 3 in number”.

How important is the name of the “Osinusi” family, how important is that family in Ijebu-Ode?

“It is a great family, with a great name. I thank God that I come from that family, I cherish it very much. We are from Fidipote Royal family, our late great grandfathers was the Awujale Onirungbon of Ijebuland a long ago before the present Awujale Oba Sikiru Adetona. My family is okay, and we are proud of the family name because the foundation they gave us was the one we are following.

Everybody calls him Sir Kay, how did the name emerge?

“It was in my school days. Just like a joke, I was together with my friends and when we were about to enter the classroom someone just said, that is Sir Kay, and my initial name was Kamorudeen, so, that is how the name emerged.

That day I was saying something, it sound funny in a way. So they were now hailing Sir Kay! And from then I was bering the name”.

“I am the first Tudaki Adinni Muslim of Nigeria”.

Everybody says that Sir Kay has a unique way of dressing, how did he developed that culture of dressing?

“I have been dressing like this even before I went to Hajj. I love my religion as a Muslim, and before I went to Hajj in 1970, I just like dressing in this way, it want to  looks like our forefathers but I made my to look different.

He is also into fashion and textile business. Is he still in the business?

“Yes Issah Allah, that is my special business. I have been doing the business with my father since I was 4 years old. I can remember, I used to go to shop with him in Abeokuta at Itoku but they used to called it Plaff then. I was going to shop with him and my mother. My mother is still alive. My mother is from Isale Eko and my father side is from Ijebu-Ode. When I was living with my father in Ijebu-Ode, he is a textile dealer and when I moved to Lagos I continued to be going to shop with my family in Lagos. They too are into textile business. I will say I was bred and brought up in the textile business and I am 77 years old now.
