•ESV JOHNBULL AMAYAEVBO, President
Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Johnbull Amayaevbo is the 25th President of National Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers. He was inaugurated a few months ago in Abuja signalling the beginning of the administration. ESV Amayaevbo is a big player in the industry. He runs the Johnbull Amayaevbo & Co (JAC), a multi-disciplinary, multi-dimensional firm with varied expertise and experience in the real estate sector of the Nigerian economy.
On assumption of office as the president of NIESV, Amayaevbo and his council members began their administration hitting the ground running. They embarked on lots of projects and programmes which has brought the institution to more prominence. He has brought his over 30 years of experience in forging ahead the cause of the institution.
Recently, the president was interviewed by City People where he mentioned the many achievements the institution has recorded within a very short time. Meanwhile, he went further to speak about the next 2 big events the institution will be organising very soon. Read and enjoy!
“It is on record that during my time we had a partnership with the Lagos Business School, with the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies. We are having a partnership relationship with the Financial Reporting council. We are having the same relationship with LASRA and LSDPC. We are having a relationship with the Edo State Government, we are having that same relationship with some higher institutions. Also, we have done 2 major national CPDs. We have done all these within a very short time. I took over on 25th of June, last year and within this short time, we have almost completed building our national secretariat. Also, within the period, we have been able to induct about 556 associate members and now we are inducting 62 fellows. We have been able to create about 5 more branches of the institution in the country. So, you can see that within that short time, we have done a lot.
“There are 2 major events coming up soon. One is held in March and the other one will be held between April/May, though we are still contemplating. For the one in March, it is a known fact that the major law or policy that affects land administration and land management in Nigeria is the Land Use Act. Everything about land almost revolves around the Land Use Act. As the major stakeholder, we are the consultant, the main professionals on the issue of Land Management. We want to examine the act and how it has fared so far. The Land Use Act was enacted 45 years ago. It was signed into law on the 29th of March, 1978. So, during this administration, we are organising a national event in Abuja. Let us talk about one of the major factors of production. How have we been managing it? How have we been administering it? and unfortunately, a law of 45 years old, nothing has touched it. We are not moving forward. The world is changing every day. For such important factors like land, just take for instance at the federal level, we did not have a ministry allocated to land. And you are saying housing. How did you build housing? Which is more important; land or housing? Land is just a unit in that ministry. We need to wake up. That is why Lagos is faster developing than other states. Land is their major means of income generation. They have been able to structure the land and you can credit Lagos for that. So, we would look at its vis a vis that Land Use Decree and other laws affecting land.
“we are holding the event for 3 days; 27th, 28th and we will crown it on the 29th. There we will invite all stakeholders, former legislators, former governors, current governors, lawyers, senators and many stakeholders within and outside the country to participate. There would be a panellist session in the morning and in the afternoon every day of the event where we would discuss and come up with a communique that if the government looked into properly, it would have a positive impact on the economy. Real estate is a major contributor to the nation’s GDP and that of any country.
“on the second event, you see as a key stakeholder in the country, we feel that our leaders; public elected officers need to be equipped. So, we are packaging a programme for them. We are partnering with an organisation that is an authority in the field. It is going to be a major event that will shake the foundation of governance in Nigeria. All this has never happened but my administration is working tirelessly, doing our best. We are engaging professionals, PR Consultants everywhere to take up some of these.
