Niyi Akinmolayan, the same director behind the recently released ‘Jagun Jagun,’ produced by Femi Adebayo.
Lateef Adedimeji’s gripping new epic film Lisabi: The uprising will premiere on Netflix on 27 September, and its sequel, Lisabi: A Legend is born, will arrive in January 2025.
Spotlighting the life and legacy of the fabled Yoruba hero, Lisabi, whose life made a lasting impression in Nigerian history, the drama promises to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline, dynamic characters, and exceptional production values, marking an exciting addition to Netflix’s diverse content lineup.
Viewers can anticipate a thrilling watch as they witness the 18th-century Egba farmer Lisabi, ignite a rebellion against the oppressive Oyo Empire. His defiance, culminating in the defeat of over 6,000 Oyo soldiers, secures Egba’s independence after centuries of subjugation, marking a pivotal moment in Yoruba history.
According to the producer of the movie, Adedimeji, “after my exploits in Ayinla movie, I knew I had to do this to further glorify my Egba heritage. EGBA people, this is for you!!!!! The entire Yoruba, Africa and Blacks worldwide, this is for you.
The actor further gave the date which the movies would be released on the streaming platform called Netflix, coming to Netflix 27th of September

Though, the much awaited movie is trending on line as some criticise the movie for using the same familiar faces in the industry. It started with the choice of director, Niyi Akinmolayan, the Director of Jagunjagun movie by Femi Adebayo.
They also criticise the choice of cast which are almost the same faces in Jagunjagun, Orisa by Odunlade etc.
In response to the criticism, Akinmolayan, took to social media to express his indifference. “I’ve grown a thick skin,” he said, adding that those who are critical of him should take the time to learn more about his name and his values before passing judgment.
However, the movie received positive reviews in most quarters on Facebook and X commonly called Twitter. As some praised the ace actor for the Lisabi movie and some say they can’t wait to see the movie. Below are some of them.

The producer of the movie, Lisabi, Lateef Adedimeji hasn’t officially responded to any comment, as his first-ever movie is set to hit Netflix in September and the movie has enjoyed good reviews so far irrespective of a small percentage of negative opinions which opinions have also been working in promoting and creating awareness for those who haven’t heard about the much-anticipated movie, LISABI.
