It’s no more news that many Nollywood actresses acquire houses, every now and now. Even as a young and beautiful actress, if you don’t have a house of your own in the industry then you are not a big babe. It is a trend in the industry and it has been going on for a while. Though many have question their source of wealth. Stating if people make so much from the industry, why is it only the female ones, that acquire houses and exotic cars easily compared to their male colleagues in the industry.
This has made their male colleagues also step up their games in having a house of their own too. Most especially in the Yoruba movie industry, over 20 male stars have acquired lands and houses in Ikorodu, so they won’t be left out. To them it’s still better to have a house in a place like Ikorodu, where lands are cheap and start building projects gradually till it is complete, than being in the industry for decades without having a personal house, and being ridiculed by the females in the industry.
The guys are so united and helpful to each other, that once they acquire a land in Ikorodu, they encourage, their close colleagues to do same, and due to this. In a particular street, one can easily see close to 5 Yoruba actors houses on the same street. Take for example Yinka Quadri and his close friends in the industry, have their houses almost on the same area. Same applies to Sanyeri, his house and that of his close friends in the industry are located almost at the same area. It’s been like that for years now, and they keep encouraging each other to buy and build, since they are not so lucky as the females in the industry. And this has helped many of them become landlord in Ikorodu, just last year, Ijebu had his house opening in Ikorodu and it was a very beautiful house. The late actor Murphy also started building his house in Ikorodu before his untimely death.
Popular Actor Adekola Tijani aka Kamilu also revealed that their houses are almost in the same area in Ikorodu. These actors have realised that most of the veterans in the industry couldn’t achieve much during their time, hoping for something big before achieving something, and it is a decision, most of them are regreting till date. So instead of making same mistakes, it is better they utilise the little they have well and not waste time wating for something big, which may never come. And since they can’t afford lands in the heart of Lagos, they decided to go to Ikorodu, where lands is cheaper and build moderately without competing with the ladies, that gets almost everything free through connections and rich guys in the society.
A popular actor, who also don’t want his name to be mentioned revealed that, at the end of the day, they will still be called landlords and landladies irrespective of where the houses are located and no one will say, after acting and being famous for years, they don’t have anything to show for it, he also revealed that most of the actors go into weekly contributions to acquire lands and also build while some that are lucky with good movie deals and endorsement deals, invest their money into building it, moreover Ikorodu is very develop, life there is cheaper compared to living in the hearts of Lagos, where everything is on the high side. He also added that it is the ladies that are out to compete with each other unlike the guys, they just want to see results and achievements. They cut their coat according to the size of the materials they have.
It was also revealed that owing a personal house in Ikorodu now amongst the guys in the industry is a big deal. It goes a long way to show, you are focused and know what you are doing, and this has encouraged a lot of them to do same, and not aim at Lekki like the ladies.
In the last 5 months over 10 actresses in the Yoruba movie industry acquired houses. And they don’t make money from the movie industry. Though some of their colleagues in the movie industry have come out to expose how they acquire this houses, but this has not in any way slow them down in achieving their goals in life.
Few months ago, star actress Shan George revealed that most of the movie stars claiming they bought houses for themselves are liars. According to her “Many just lease the houses and come Online to claim they bought it”.
Another actor, Uche Maduagwu also claimed that 99 percent of nollywood actresses bought their houses with proceeds from Prostitution. He claimed, he heard someone who narrated how some popular actresses in the industry have turned Dubai into the new Allen Avenue Ikeja Lagos, an area known for prostitution.
The actor said the ladies claim that hard work pays after going to bed with Senators, Wealthy traditional rulers, governors and rich businessman in the country nothing that their acting fees in nollywood cannot give them what they flaunt on social media. He added that 99 percent of actresses in Nollywood bought their houses with money gotten from Ashawo job”.
Highly respected comedian Ali Baba once also talked about a popular nollywood actress who feature in Yoruba movies who bragged about building house worth 125 million. According to him “Even if they pay you 5 million per movie, how many movies do you do in a year? We know the ones that use their mileage and popularity to do business. But the ones we know cannot even act in an English movie. You will now come and tell me you raised 125 million to buy a ho use in Lekki phase one….” All these and more are something the men can’t achieve, so they opted for going for what they can afford without stress.
