But there is still a small group of stand-out artistes who have enjoyed runaway success especially in the last year, 2019. One of such stand-out artistes who has enjoyed tremendous success in the last 12 months or so is the wave-making hip hop sensation, Naira Marley.
Without a doubt, Naira Marley is one of the most sought-after music artistes right now. He is at the top of his game, doing all he knows how to do best. He came to limelight recently after the release of his song, Issa Goal, which featured Olamide and Lil Kesh. Later, he went on to drop another song Am I A Yahoo Boy? The song even brought him to the notice of President Buhari. Naira Marley, who is controversial for repeatedly praising internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo boys, in his songs and on social media, was detained by the EFCC for over a week last year. EFCC’s spokesman, Tony Orilade, confirmed that Naira Marley would be charged to court because “There is overwhelming evidence against him.”But the musician’s Management said the EFCC was using the ‘Issa Goal’ singer as “a scapegoat for cybercrime in the nation.” This song caused him a lot of trouble. It led him to prison. Because of the love many artistes and fans had for him, they campaigned to get him out. The Police and EEFC believed they did him badly, but no, all they did was make him more popular. Now, different people day-in-day-out want to know who the controversial Naira Marley is and why he is always in the news for different reasons. Naira Marley whose real is Azeez Fashola is a father of two, married to a white lady. He left Nigeria for the UK at age 11. Forget that everything out of his mouth is all shiity. He is, however, loved by all.
He is very intelligent. Most artistes couldn’t even stand his level of intelligence. Naira is also one artiste who doesn’t have time for anyone. If you step on his toes, he would give it back to you double. With over 2.6 million followers on IG, he engages his fans daily on live video and his post. He has been in the game for over 10 years, doing his stuff on a low-key level until he came back to Nigeria to properly get into the market and God has helped him. Everything worked out the way he planned. Naira has so much love for his fans, he calls them Marlians, the name was originated from his name Marley, with his popular slang saying 0 belt a thousand trousers. This is an easy way of showing that you are a Marlian, wearing your trousers without a belt. He has managed to influence and get into the heart of both the young and old, not considering what he sings. His sounds are good, but most people have a problem with his lyrics because he doesn’t fake them. He says them in a way that would be understood when heard.
Other artistes sugar coat their lyrics so you don’t have an idea unless you listen carefully. In 2019, he was on all-big budget concert within and outside the country, his cash out 2019 December, was one of a kind, he attended all shows and the funny thing show promoters did is make him perform what they are saying last. To them, it has become obvious that any show where he had performed first, the crowd would quickly dwindle. Naira Marley has been able to make himself relevant. Since Marry Juana, Naira has proved an expert at taking on any style, no matter the tempo or genre. Naira’s energy makes any tune his own; from the drill banger Back 2 Work to the UK rap melodies of Money on the Road, to the afrobeats club smash Final Freestyle. He’s given clubs and streets hit after hit…. Naira is on his own lane and has headed straight to the top. His team happens to be one of the best teams, and he is always on the move.
Naira will tell you he can count how many times he closed his eyes in the last few weeks. He has been very busy. In 2019, he had two concerts one in Ibadan and the other in Lagos, which pulled the biggest crowd and a sold-out concert in 3 days of a release date. His concert was one huge success, which was held in the Eko Convention center with different artistes in attendance to support him also he recently launched his record label to support artistes tagged: Marlian music, Naira Marley announced his new record label Marlian music during his end-of-year Marlian Fest. Upon the unveiling of Marlian Music, the ‘Soapy’ crooner also notified his fans that he had signed new artistes on the crew. Four artistes were signed on the new music imprint and they are; Mohbad, Cblvck, Zinoleesky and FabianBlu. Naira Marley shared a photo with the newly signed acts after they signed their contract papers. On his ‘Lord of Lamba’ EP, Naira Marley featured Click on a track ‘Tingasa’. He promises more music from his very talented brothers. Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley may be the most controversial Nigerian artiste, but he is still loved by all regardless.
Naira Marley was conceived in Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria yet later moved to Peckham, South London when he was just 11-years of age. In the United Kingdom, he started studying at Porlock Hall, then he moved to Walworth School where he received his GCSE. He then proceeded to Walworth School with his qualification and went further to study at Peckham Academy, where he got distinction in Business. Then, Naira Marley proceeded to study at Crossways College where he finished Business Law, so he took a break and started making music till date. He began realising his potentials for singing in the year 2014, Naira Marley found his singing ability when he was asked by his companions to sing in one of their account sessions in the studio which was only a joke. He never knew he had music ability yet in 2014, his companion’s induced him to hit to the studio, and after that, he discharged his first melody, ‘Wed Juana’ ft Max Twigz and it turned into a UK road jam.
He came fully into the spotlight after discharging his tune, ‘Issa Goal’ ft. Olamide and Lil Kesh. From that point forward, he has been having hits consecutively. Naira has two women and four children who are all British. During his case with the EFCC, he said he did not own a laptop but was given one to use temporarily to upload videos on YouTube and even when he was coming down to Nigeria he borrowed his laptop from a friend who owns the Butcher’s and an electronics shop in England because he knew he had to upload videos on his YouTube when he gets here. Talking about his deals, he had a deal with Coca-Cola for the song, Issa Goal which he featured Olamide and Lil Kesh. This song which is currently still a banger on the street attracted deals from Nike to participate in the Nigerian sportswear exhibition.
