Sir, is it also true that if you take Vitamin C, it could boost your immune system to fight and help fight Coronavirus?
Okay, Vitamin C is good for covering the Epithelial cells that are exposed so it can prevent you from catching common cold but it does not mean it will serve as a booster to your immune system. Yes, it helps to control how much you get. But does that now mean you will not get it? I don’t think so. It helps, yes, but to say that it gives you a higher or stronger immune system, I don’t know about that one. You see, sometimes people take advantage of the society, like we heard somebody saying that he has a cure for Coronavirus and he’s selling a bottle of oil for 40 dollars. There is nothing wrong in supernatural healing, its good and I believe in it. But let’s not take it to the extreme. If you believe you have been healed, go to the hospital, let them check you. In the bible, Jesus said to the ten leprous, go and show yourselves to the priests. Back then, the priests were the doctors. So, go to the doctors to be sure you have been healed. So, if you think you have gotten the immunization for it, the CDC will be more than glad. They will draw your blood and reproduce the anti-bodies so that they can give it to people. How did they solve the problem of Ebola? All the people that survived Ebola, they took their blood, they brought them together and literally shipped them to Atlanta, USA, it a whole planeload of Ebola survivors. They took their blood, reproduced their anti-bodies and started giving it to people. That was what CDC did to combat Ebola. Once they produced enough, they brought them back to Liberia and started treating people and passed it to other African countries. Somebody in Nigeria too has said he has a cure, please, any scientist in Nigeria that has a cure show yourself to CDC, they will be glad to have you.
Is there a truth to the fact that the average black man, African man, naturally has a stronger immunity to all of these viruses?
That’s a blatant lie. That’s nothing but pride coming from the average African, thinking that they are better. Oyinbo people, even if they believe they’re better, once you’re within their system and they see what you can do, they support you, they embrace you. I have a friend, he’s the head of G.E. (General Electric) in America. This is a friend that we lived in the same house in Ilorin. We grew up together. His mother was a tenant in my father’s house. He went to Federal Government College, Warri, where he had three As and from there they gave him scholarship to go to Britain. It was from Britain that MIT took him to America and since then, he has been the head of G.E. For an Oyinbo to leave you to head their secrets, shows they are not proud. They don’t discriminate. Once you prove your mettle, they will embrace you. All they want is whatever or whoever will lift the country up. They’re not like us who will be saying, no, he’s not Yoruba, no, he’s not Igbo or he doesn’t look like us. They are not like that, all they want is for you to prove yourself. And once you go past that hurdle of proving yourself, you won’t have any problems with them. From the black doctors in America, do you know the percentage that are Nigerians? Seventy-five per cent of all the black doctors in America are Nigerians. Most of the black American doctors in America are Nigerians. This could only happen because they gave them room to prove themselves. They left here because there’s no room for them to prove themselves.
What is your advice for Nigerians who are in a state of panic because of Coronavirus?
They should do the basic things. When you get to gatherings, I am not saying you shouldn’t shake or do any other thing, but as soon as you are through, wash your hands.
In this kind of environment, don’t go to big gatherings. If you are sick, stay home.
It’s not a must that if you are sick you must socialise. In America now, if you have a child at Day-Care and you notice he or she is coughing, don’t take the child to Day-Care; keep your child at home. If you are sick, stay home.
As a medical practitioner who has observed the situation of things (Coronavirus), would you say you are pleased with the preparedness of the government?
In a way, they are trying based on what is available. We don’t have the resources but they are trying. The most important is to inform the populace of what is going on and they are upfront with it. You don’t have to have answer everything. I know the populace want them to have answers, but they can’t have answer to everything.
You are a Medical Doctor, but not every Medical Doctor can talk about the virus, what makes you qualify to speak on the virus?
I have 3 doctorate degrees. I have a PhD in Molecular Endocrinology. So, I have worked in a bench of the lab, not just treating patients. I have done bench works; real research, so I know what we are talking about. I have grown cells. I have grown neurons and I have used it for treatment on people. So, if you have worked in the lab, you will understand what I am saying. When I hear people coming to say something, I ask them if they had worked in the lab. If you worked in the lab, you know how the system works, so people can’t just give you anything. But you can’t just do anything; you have to know how the virus works, you have to know how bacteria work.
There are two different systems. Those are the facts that are missing. I am not saying what they are saying is true or wrong, but before you lay a claim, go to the CDC it’s a very good organisation. Did you hear what the former Chairman of CDC told the President of America? He told the President that, you better allocate money. Don’t deceive the people because the disease is going to spread. They are very honest. The President said don’t tell people about it, but the Chairman said he can’t deceive his people. Trump didn’t want him to say that to people because he didn’t want to lose the election this year.
But why do we still have very few cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria despite all the noise around the world?
How many of you travel? If you have a lot of people travelling it would have spread. Do you know how many Chinese citizens do business with America?
Your business with people determines how you will be affected. If 10,000 people are going to China every day and you only have 1 person going to China every day, who will have the infection first? Do you know how many flights come to America from China every day? You have to look at the markets. These are the two world powers. They trade at the highest level. We travel but not at the rate of America.
Do you see Coronavirus gradually fading out like Ebola and other viruses have faded in the past?
It will. I believe it will fade out! Because it’s either they get a cure or get haemoglobin against it. It’s likely they get haemoglobin first before the vaccine against it because developing vaccine takes a long time but getting anti-body is not hard.
What they will do is just to get somebody who had survived it and get some of the syrup and then duplicate it.
