Prophet Odekunle Epaphras (known as “Olorun Ojiji”) has been trending on TikTok and other social media platforms lately because of a viral video in which he passionately teaches and demonstrates how to pray and call on the name of Jesus in tongues. In the clip, his energetic, unique prayer chants, which mix intense spiritual sounds with phrases like “in the name of Jesus,” drew widespread attention. Today, when Nigerian megachurch Pastors are mentioned on social media, this prophet is also included. He has become a topic of discussion among people who listen to his messages online every day. Recently, he has faced criticism. Some online critics argued that his vocal delivery and cadence sounded unorthodox or resembled traditional incantations rather than conventional Christian prayer. Many social media users found the sounds humorous, leading to a wave of funny videos and memes mimicking his prayer style.
While his supporters and followers have defended his ministry, noting that intense spiritual expressions and distinct prayer manifestations are common in certain prophetic and Pentecostal circles, the prophet himself has addressed critics regarding his long-standing journey in ministry. Prophet Odekunle revealed at some point that he gave his life to Christ at the age of 13. His background includes years of intensive fasting, participation in prayer teams, Bible school training, and mentorship under various Christian leaders before launching his own ministry. He gained broader emotional recognition during events like the Light Up Ibadan crusade, where he publicly reflected on sharing a pulpit with Pastor E.A. Adeboye of the RCCG. Like many prominent deliverance and prophetic ministries, his methods, including the distribution of items like anointing oil and bottled water, have attracted debate and criticism from skeptics and other Christian commentators.
Prophet Epaphras has publicly addressed his critics, urging people to understand the years of hardship, sacrifice, and preparation behind his ministry rather than judging prematurely. Members frequently share testimonies regarding severe health recoveries, immigration and visa approvals, financial turnarounds, and career breakthroughs. His ministry has even drawn endorsements from high-profile figures, including local traditional rulers. Like many fast-growing prophetic ministries in Nigeria, Prophet Epaphras has faced online skepticism and scrutiny. Critics frequently debate the authenticity of the miraculous testimonies or question the distribution and sale of spiritual items, such as bottled covenant water and free anointing oil.
In response to the allegations, the man of God urged critics not to judge his success without understanding the decades of hidden sacrifices, preparation, and dedication behind his work. He maintains that his instructions come directly from divine guidance, choosing to focus on his ministerial duties rather than engaging in public arguments.
