  • MODINAT, His Daughter Tells City People

In a chat with our correspondent at the family’s Alado Bus Stop residence  a few days back,, Modinat, one of the young daughters of the late Baba Alado was composed, witty, and full of fond memories , much like her father.

“One of the things I’ll miss is my father’s jokes and magnanimity towards us, his children,” Modinat began, smiling.

“My father was a very funny man. People see Baba Alado outside and they think he is always firm and no-nonesense. At home, he is a comedian. He will crack jokes about everybody and we will all be laughing. He had a joke for every situation. That house was always lively because of him.”

But beyond the humour, Modinat said her father’s defining trait was his generosity to his children.

“He was nice to a fault, he never joked with our welfare. He provided everything we needed and we never lacked,” she said.

“He would say, ‘Modinat, what do you need? Tell me.’ before I even finish asking, he has already sent it. He never allowed any of his children to suffer. He covered us completely.”

Modinat recounted how Baba Alado made it a duty to personally ensure all his children and grandchildren were okay.

So how was his last days?

“We used to come and see him when he was sick,I was so sad when I found out he was ill”.

When asked what next for the family after the death of their Patriarch, Modinat took a deep breath and displayed the same resilience her father was known for.

She said she has taken solace in the good life he lived and the legacy he left behind.

“I have taken solace. My father lived 84 years, he saw his children, he saw his grandchildren, he saw his great-grandchildren. He fulfilled his wish to be buried beside his mother,  What else can we ask Allah for?” she said.

“Of course we will miss his jokes,  we will miss his presence. But life goes on.”

‘ So we will keep living, we will protect his name, and we will continue to be good children as he trained us.”
