EJA-Ice launches Nigeria’s first solar-powered cold chain truck

by Promise Babatunde

EJA-Ice Nigeria Ltd has raised the bar for cold chain innovation in Africa, tackling Nigeria’s food preservation challenge with the unveiling of its first-ever Product Showcase on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Ijora-Lagos.

The company, renowned for its innovative cold chain technology such as solar-powered cooling tricycles, modular cold rooms, outdoor coldrooms and powered freezers, unveiled another solar-powered cooling truck that promises to transform how perishable goods are stored and transported. These solutions aim to reduce Nigeria’s 40% annual food loss while also serving the pharmaceutical sector with efficient vaccine preservation.

Opening the event, Mrs. Bola Ramos, Regional CEO of EJA-Ice Nigeria, described the company as a bridge between food security and sustainability. She noted that EJA-Ice’s mission goes beyond business, seeking to protect the environment and safeguard communities from hunger and waste.

The program, moderated by Mr. Israel Oluwadamilare, featured the introduction of dignitaries from across industries, including representatives from Fan Milk, All On, LAPO, F & P, Tolerance, the banking sector, and Lagos State’s sustainability office.

Mrs. Ibukun Faloyi, who delivered the keynote, highlighted how millions of food items and vaccines are destroyed yearly due to inadequate storage. She applauded EJA-Ice for introducing a technology that could finally change the narrative.

Mr. Yusuf Oladipupo, Founder and Group CEO, traced the company’s journey back to a personal encounter with food spoilage. “What began with one solar-powered freezer has now grown into a complete cold chain ecosystem, from farm aggregation to the last mile,” he explained. He also emphasised the uniqueness of EJA-Ice’s mobile solar-powered cooling at minus 18 degrees, which sets it apart globally.

Mr. Oladipupo also outlined how EJA-Ice offers multiple pathways for adoption, including outright purchase, lease-to-own financing, and Cooling as a Service, where clients can rent vehicles and only pay for what they use. This flexibility, backed by strong financial partnerships, ensures that farmers, businesses, and health providers can access cold chain solutions without prohibitive upfront costs.

The official unveiling, led by Ms. Aissatou alongside other dignitaries, gave guests a firsthand look at the new solar-powered truck and its advanced features. Partners and financiers, including Fan Ice representatives and truck provider Mr. Charles Nwankwor, also toured the vehicle and witnessed this first-of-its-kind solution in Nigeria.

The event also recognised industry partners such as Mr. Charles Nwankwor, a truck provider, and showcased collaborative efforts with organisations supporting financing and logistics sustainability.

With active operations in Nigeria and Kenya, and plans to extend into other African markets, EJA-Ice envisions a future where ports, borders, and trade zones are equipped with modern cold storage facilities. The company’s long-term goal is to eliminate food wastage, boost food security, and strengthen Africa’s cooling logistics sector.
