The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Rt. Mudashiru Obasa, has expressed his full support for the Run for Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon, describing it as a unique initiative that combines physical fitness with political awareness, grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, Obasa called on Lagos residents to participate in the marathon scheduled for Sunday, January 25.
The race will start from the Agege Local Government Secretariat and pass through various communities before terminating at the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
According to the Speaker, about 1,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, with incentives attached to reward outstanding performance. He disclosed that 200 participants will receive ₦10,000 each, while seven professional athletes will earn ₦50,000 each.
Obasa said the initiative is particularly aimed at engaging and energising the youth, stressing that the marathon carries a symbolic message. He noted that, much like leadership, winning a race requires discipline, resilience and consistency—qualities he said exemplify the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This is more than a sporting event,” Obasa said. “It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our father, leader and mentor in areas such as economic reforms, infrastructure development, security and national unity, while also mobilising support to renew his mandate in 2027.”
He added that President Tinubu’s leadership represents “a race worth running and winning,” and urged residents to turn out in large numbers to be part of the event.
The Speaker concluded by reaffirming his anticipation of a successful outing, as he looks forward to welcoming participants at the Agege Local Government Secretariat on Sunday.
