Meet The Under 40 Male Actors In Nollywood

Over the last decade, Nollywood has witnessed a remarkable shift. A new generation of actors has emerged, bringing with them fresh energy, modern storytelling styles and a strong connection with younger audiences. These actors, many of whom are still under the age of 40, have gradually taken over the spotlight and are now among the most sought-after stars in the Nigerian movie industry.

From cinema blockbusters and streaming hits to television series and web productions, this crop of male actors has continued to redefine what it means to be a Nollywood leading man. They are not only talented performers but also influential public figures whose popularity stretches beyond movie screens to social media, brand endorsements and international collaborations.

As the industry expands and evolves, younger actors have begun to step forward, bringing new ideas, stronger production values and a more global outlook to Nigerian storytelling. Today, many of the films attracting attention locally and internationally are led by actors who are still in their 30s.

 

Timini Egbuson – Born June 10, 1987. He is one of Nollywood’s most visible leading men. He gained early recognition in the television series Tinsel and later starred in films such as Elevator Baby, Breaded Life, A Tribe Called Judah, and Shanty Town.

Tobi Bakre – Born June 1, 1994. He rose to fame after appearing on Big Brother Naija (Season 3). He has since starred in films such as Brotherhood, Gangs of Lagos, and Sugar Rush.

Kunle Remi – Born October 18, 1988. He rose to prominence after winning the 2010 edition of Gulder Ultimate Search. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous Nollywood films and television series including Tinsel, Alter Ego, The Eve, Gold Statue, The Prophetess, and A Naija Christmas. He gained wider international recognition for his lead role as Saro in Aníkúlápó, which became a global hit on Netflix.

Ray Emodi – Born September 4, 1990. He is known for films such as Heaven on My Mind, Unroyal, and Love in a Pandemic.

Maurice Sam – Born March 12, 1990, he is a Nigerian actor, model, and DJ known for his roles in Nollywood films and television series. He gained popularity for his role as Acid in the comedy series Hustle. He has also appeared in films and TV series such as Hush, Love Like This, and several Nollywood romantic drama productions.

Jide Kene Achufusi – Born October 17, 1991. Popularly known as Swanky JKA. He gained widespread recognition for his role in Living in Bondage: Breaking Free and has also appeared in Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards and Bad Comments.

Stan Nze – Born May 15, 1989. He won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best Actor for his role in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story. He has also appeared in Charge and Bail.

Etim Effiong – Born June 24, 1988. He began his acting career in the early 2010s, appearing in web and television series such as Goddammit It’s Monday, Gidi Up, Assistant Madams, Castle & Castle, and The Men’s Club. He made his feature film debut in New Money (2018) and gained wider recognition for his role in the Kenyan comedy Plan B, which earned him Best Actor in a Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2020.

His film credits include Collision Course, the Netflix series Blood Sisters, and several other Nollywood productions. In 2025, he directed and starred in the thriller The Herd, which later premiered on Netflix and topped the platform’s Nigeria charts.

Shaun Okojie – Born November 8, 1995. He is known for appearing in contemporary Nollywood productions and television projects including MTV Shuga.

Eso Dike –Born March 14, 1988, he is a Nigerian actor, musician, lawyer and media entrepreneur. He gained recognition for roles such as Tsola in The Smart Money Woman, Leye in Ndani TV’s Game On, and Malik in Ricordi. A graduate of University of Benin and the Nigerian Law School, he was called to the Nigerian Bar before fully pursuing acting. He has appeared in several films and series including Ponzi, Blood Sisters, Charge and Bail, Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke, Ijakumo, and The Wildflower, contributing to films that performed strongly at the Nigerian box office.

Saga Adeolu – Born April 27, 1993 in Lagos. He became popular after appearing in Big Brother Naija Season 6 and has since appeared in Nollywood productions including A Christmas in Lagos.

Baaj Adebule – Born October 25, 1988. He gained early recognition through television series such as Secrets and Scandals and Happy Family, where he acted alongside stars like Sola Sobowale and Victor Olaotan. He made his big-screen debut in 2015 in A Soldier’s Story and also appeared in the critically acclaimed Road to Yesterday. He has also appeared in productions such as Hush, 5ive, The Governor, Uncloaked, The Missing, Payday, and Battleground Showdown.

Ayoola Ayolola – Born January 12, 1987. He gained wide recognition for his role as Mide in Skinny Girl in Transit, as Aminu Garba in The Men’s Club, and for the television drama Jemeji.

Chidi Dike – Born June 29, 1990, he is a fast-rising Nollywood actor and model who gained prominence after the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. He became widely known for his romantic “lover boy” roles, particularly in the film Better Half (2023) produced by Ruth Kadiri, who also mentored him. He has appeared in over 100 films including 10 Reasons Why, Perfect Match, Love Square, and Night Fall, earning nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and the Zikomo Awards.

Uzee Usman – Born November 11, 1986. He is known for films such as Voiceless, Mustapha, Anikulapo, Oga Abuja, and A Tribe Called Judah. He is also recognized for bridging Nollywood and Kannywood through his acting career, which has earned him several awards and international recognition.

Tobi Makinde – Born May 16, 1991. He became popular for his role as Timini in the television series Jenifa’s Diary. He also co-directed the blockbuster film Battle on Buka Street alongside Funke Akindele. In 2024, he received praise for his portrayal of Shina Judah in the hit movie A Tribe Called Judah.

Shawn Faqua – Born June 6, 1988, he is a Nigerian actor, model, and presenter known for his method acting approach and dedication to researching roles and accents. He gained recognition for playing Vincent in Lagos Cougars, Rambo in Ojukokoro, and Chuks in Code of Silence. His performance in Lagos Cougars earned him multiple nominations, including Best Young/Promising Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Faqua has also appeared in productions such as Out of the Ghetto, A New You, and After the Proposal, while also performing in stage plays and modeling for several corporate brands.

Ray Adeka – Born January 14, 1996. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the character Jeje in the television series Wura, which premiered in 2023.
