To Be Next LAGOS Governor
Right now, the people of Badagry are interested in the race for governorship of Lagos. As you read this, there’s a strong push from Badagry for Lagos governor in 2027. There is even a movement called “Badagry Ló Kàn” — “It’s Badagry’s Turn”.
Why is Badagry pushing hard? We can tell you.
Since Lagos State was created in 1967, Badagry has been the only one of the 5 traditional divisions — Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Lagos Island, and Badagry — that hasn’t produced a governor. The other 4 have all had their turns.
But who’s backing the campaign for Badagry?
Traditional rulers led by Aholu Olalekan Sejiro of Kweme Kingdom recently held a press conferences demanding APC zone the ticket to Badagry.
Badagry youths under Lagos West APC Youth declared “It is Badagry or nothing”
Elder statesman Pa Andu Liadi Adio, 93, is leading the Concerned People of Badagry Forum. And he has appealed directly to Pres. Tinubu.
Their argument is about “justice, equity, and fairness” not agitation. They point to Badagry’s loyalty to APC/Tinubu, its strategic border location with Benin Republic, and its role in logistics, tourism, and ECOWAS trade.
Who are they pushing?
The main name coming up from time to time is Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, aka “SMA Gold”. He has been consulting across Lagos and held a unity meeting of 200+ Badagry APC leaders. Pa Andu Adio said Badagry never pushed a candidate before because they hadn’t found someone they “truly trusted and believed in”. Now they believe Ajose is that person.
Badagry’s push is happening while other camps are also moving too. Hon James Faleke just endorsed Hamzat for governor, and Ambode supporters are also claiming Tinubu’s backing. So Badagry groups are saying if APC wants unity, zoning to them would end decades of exclusion.
The monarchs and youths are also appealing to Tinubu directly, saying he “is comfortable with a Badagrian becoming the next governor” because Badagry delivered votes for APC.
Who is this Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA Gold) they are talking about? We can tell you.
He is an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for Lagos 2027, from the Badagry Division.
What are his political moves so far:
(1) Statewide consultation: He’s been visiting all local governments and LCDAs in Lagos to meet APC leaders, not just Badagry. His pitch: “We felt this is the time to come back home to Badagry”.
(2) Badagry Unity Drive: In February 2026, he convened a Stakeholders’ meeting with 200+ APC leaders from the 3 LGAs/LCDAs in Badagry. The meeting was called within 24 hours and he was surprised at the turnout.
(3) Historic context: He said it was the first political meeting of leaders across the division since the death of former Apex leader Dr. Sunny Ajose. He claims: “I am the only person that called for this meeting”.
Why Badagry leaders are rallying behind him?
His main message is:
Unity. He told Badagry leaders: “It is only when we stand together as one that whatever we demand, we will be able to get”. He’s positioning Badagry’s governorship bid as a unity project, not divisive.
The news coverage so far focuses on his consultations and Badagry backing. He’s the most visible Badagry aspirant being pushed by traditional rulers, youths, and elders under the “Badagry Ló Kàn” movement. But APC primaries is still betweenMar-Jun 2026, so other aspirants may emerge.
Is he close to the Celestial Church of Christ?
Yes, very close, we hear. Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose has deep, ties to the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC):
(1) His Family legacy is in CCC
– His late father was Most Superior Evangelist Abraham Ajose, who served over 50 years in CCC leadership. Rev. Pastor EMF Oshoffa even appointed him as an International Representative of the Church.
– Samuel says he grew up under that influence and was taught “the doctrines of faith but also the practical values of empathy, sacrifice, and responsibility”.
(2) Active engagement with CCC National Headquarters, Makoko
He attended the Special Good Friday Easter Service at CCC National HQ, Makoko in April 2026. Service was conducted by Rev. Emmanuel Mobiyina Friday Oshoffa, Pastor and Spiritual Head of CCC Worldwide.
He made a N100 million donation toward the construction project at CCC National Headquarters, Makoko — called “historic” by Celestial Prerogative News.
Held a press conference at CCC National HQ on April 8, 2026 to address his 2027 governorship bid.
(3) Public endorsement from CCC leadership
Rev. EMF Oshoffa publicly endorsed Ajose, describing him as a “preferred candidate for the leadership of Lagos State”.
CCC elders like Most Superior Evangelist Ajao and Most Superior Evangelist Olarinde attended his governorship declaration at Police College Ground, Ikeja.
At his declaration, “Elders and members of Celestial Church of Christ came out in large numbers to support the aspirant, whose family has long-standing roots within the Church”.
(4) Political messaging tied to CCC.
– His campaign slogan mixes both: “CELE L’OKAN, BADAGRY L’OKAN!” “It’s Cele’s turn, It’s Badagry’s turn”.
Samuel Mawuyon Ajose Movement claims half of the 10 million votes they’re promising Tinubu for 2027 will come from religious groups including CCC.
His family is CCC, his major church events are at National HQ, the Pastor endorsed him, and CCC elders are showing up for his campaign.
The Secretary to the Lagos State Government Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, is also from Badagry.
How does this affect Badagry’s chances in 2027?
Badagry groups pushing Dr. Ajose are using this exact point that “Badagry is the only division that hasn’t produced a governor since 1967″. Hamzat’s Epe/Ogun ties are being used by opponents who want an Omo-Eko “true Lagos indigene”. Some indigenous groups have openly rejected Hamzat’s bid for that reason.
Meanwhile, Hamzat is consulting GAC and has a group called KO Humanity backing his 2027 run. So he’s in the race, but his heritage is a major talking point.
Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG) is from Badagry.
Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin’s Badagry ties is as follows:
(1) Hometown: She hails from Badagry Division. Her full name is often listed as Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, with “Hundeyin” being a prominent Badagry family name.
(2) Current role: She was Appointed SSG by Governor Sanwo-Olu in June 2023, making her the highest-ranking Badagry indigene in the current Lagos cabinet set-up.
(3) Political relevance: Because of her Badagry roots, some “Badagry Ló Kàn” supporters have floated her name in 2027 conversations. But we hear she has not declared for governor and there’s no campaign from her camp just yet.
How does this fit the Badagry 2027 push?
The Badagry movement uses two arguments:
(1) Historic Exclusion: Badagry is the only one of Lagos’ 5 IBILE divisions — Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Epe — that has never produced a governor since 1967 when Lagos State was established.
(2) Current Representation: With Salu-Hundeyin as SSG, Badagry people argue they already have top administrative experience at state level, so governorship is the next logical step for equity.
