Rotary International District 7080 ushered in a new chapter of leadership during its annual District Changeover and Awards Celebration, as Uche Okugo was formally installed as District Governor before an audience of Rotarians, family members, friends, community leaders, and distinguished guests. The event, held at the Mississauga Grand Banquet & Event Centre, celebrated both the achievements of the outgoing Rotary year and the promise of the year ahead.
The evening featured the ceremonial transition of leadership from outgoing District Governor Susanne Zbinden to incoming District Governor Uche Okugo, recognising a legacy of service while embracing Rotary International’s 2026-2027 theme, “Create Lasting Impact.” The atmosphere was one of celebration, gratitude, fellowship, and renewed commitment to Rotary’s mission of Service Above Self.
In accepting the role, District Governor Okugo reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Rotary’s impact across communities through collaboration, innovation, youth empowerment, community development, environmental stewardship, and humanitarian service. His installation marked the beginning of a year focused on inspiring Rotarians to build stronger clubs, forge meaningful partnerships, and leave a lasting legacy of positive change.
Rotary International District 7080 comprises the regions and counties west of Toronto, including the Regions of Peel, Halton and Waterloo, and the Counties of Dufferin and Wellington. With 53 clubs and 1,200 members, it is located in Canada’s most populous and fastest-growing region.
As the ceremony concluded, attendees reflected on Rotary’s enduring values of fellowship, integrity, diversity, and service, expressing optimism for a year of meaningful action and transformational leadership under District Governor Uche Okugo.
The Changeover Ceremony served not only as a celebration of leadership but also as a reminder that Rotary’s greatest strength lies in its members – people united by a shared purpose to create hope, improve lives, and Create Lasting Impact in their communities and around the world.
