Chartered Bank Alumni Hold Reunion 17 Yrs After

by Jamiu Abubakar

On Saturday, 1st of October, 2022, Chartered Bank Alumni gathered in Lagos. It was the day they met one another in large number after the bank ceased to exist as an entity.

The Organising Committee for the reunion party led by Mrs. Ibiye Ekong has done remarkably well in planning that reunion party in Lagos. The glamorous occasion was worthwhile as it provided everyone the avenue to meet and relish the good time they spent together as staff of Chartered Bank.

The reunion party was classy and very colourful. The glitz and glamorous that resonates around the party was beautiful to see. The choice of having their party at the Harbour Point Hall, a popular event centre located along Wilmer Point Road, off Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos was brilliant. It created the right feel for a reunion party, devoid of distraction of any kind.

The party was massively attended by the then staff of the defunct bank. Some of them started the banking career right from Chartered Bank and they are now big in the banking industry. It was an event they thoroughly cherished as many of them came from far and wide to be part of the reunion party.

City people Reporter, JAMIU ABUBAKAR (08085185886) and Photojournalist, SUNDAY OYEMADE covered the event and below they give a blow by blow account of how the party went.

THE REUNION PARTY WAS FUNFULLY LOADED

It was a great feeling for members seeing one another again after a long period of time. Among the highpoints of the party was when the likes of pioneer MD/CEO of the bank, Bashorun Odunayo Oladunjoye; its former MD/CEO, Mr. Moses Adedoyin; Mr. Rasheed Aderemi Kolarinwa; Mr. Akinsola Akinfenwa; Mr. Ayo Olatunji; Madam Oshuwa Gbadebo-Smith were honoured for their unrivalled contributions towards the success of the institution.

At the initial stage of the party, a number of them took time to deliver their goodwill messages to members as they were all glad to have their bosses present at the event.

This was followed by a dance galore which saw virtually every member in the hall dance to the lovely and classic music from the Disc Jockey at the party. This made many of them put on their dancing shoes to enjoy the vibes of the evening. Later on, the well designed reunion was cut upon the spelling “Family”, a word they all cherish so much as they believe it has kept them together till date.

There was an exciting game which served as side attraction and that was Raffle Draws. It was conducted in 3 stages. The first 2 sages saw winners being rewarded with some home use gadgets. The final stage of the draw was held at the tail end of the party. Lucky winners at this stage smiled home with star prizes such as Deep Freezer, Home Theatre Set and a standing Gas Burner.

Members that were in remote locations and abroad also took part in the celebration as they joined through Zoom online virtual platform. Some of them also were given the privilege to address the gathering and speak on how Chartered Bank has impacted their lives. They promised to make it to the next edition of the party.

The reunion party was a great one which availed members of the institution an avenue to meet physically and network. They look forward to the next edition of the occasion.

THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN’S SPEECH

Mrs. Ibiye Asime was the Chairman Planning Committee for the occasion. While she was giving her welcome address, she spoke extensively about the maiden edition of the reunion celebration. She thanked every member of Chartered Bank Alumni for turning up massively for the party. She took time to identify and recognize the efforts made by the Big 4 Founding bosses of the great institution which laid the foundation upon which most of them built and grew their flourishing careers. She also saluted the giant strides of Excos members, heads of departments and not overlooking the efforts of the brilliant younger officers at various times. She said they all made Chartered Bank a great financial institution and a bank to beat.

She went further to describe the programmes the committee had put in place to make the reunion party a remarkable one. She therefore highlighted a warm reception with Meet & Greet Cocktail and Photography; an all inclusive dancing Competition and raffle draws as well as delightful treats which include foods, drinks, cultural displays and video reels of success stories of Chartered Bank.  Meanwhile she on behalf of other members of the committee urged members to enjoy themselves at the party.
