He is one of the frontline runners in the forthcoming governorship race in Lagos. He is a decent and calm gentleman who has a lot of ideas on governance and leadership. He also has a lot of experience in public service.
Chief Kunle Uthman is a legal practitioner who was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1985. He holds the traditional title of Jagunmolu of Ibesheland in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
His political career commenced in 1995 when appointed as Personal Assistant to the Hon. Minister of Transport and Aviation in the Interim National Government of Chief Ernest Sonekan and later Personal Assistant to the Hon. Minister of Power and Steel during the regime of Gen. Sani Abacha.
He later returned to legal practice and established the law firm of Kunle Uthman and Co., Barristers and Solicitors.
His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, later recommended Chief Uthman and his appointment was confirmed by the Lagos State House of Assembly as a Hon. Commissioner in the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission, a position he held under that administration and a part of the tenure of His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode as Governor of Lagos.
He also served among other appointments, as a member of the Committee On Policy Control And Planning Regulations and the Chairman, of the Legal Committee that drafted relevant regulations in respect of the regulations and Habitat Law in Lagos State.


An astute advocate, he has published several articles on law, jurisprudence, and social matters both locally and abroad. As a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), African Bar Association (ABA) and the International Bar Association (IBA), he has attended several international seminars, workshops and conferences locally and in several countries.
He was a distinguished member of the Body of Benchers for a period of three years as part of a budding legal career. He is the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Lagos State in next Saturday’s governorship elections.
