Disengaged Eco Bank Staff Cries Foul Over Non-Payment of Benefits, Seek CBN Intervention

by Reporter

Members of staff of Eco Bank who were recently disengaged on 31st of January, 2024 are aggrieved and they have boldly expressed their dissatisfaction writing to the Central Bank of Nigeria, complaining about how they were being treated following the dismissal from work.

In the letter addressed to the office of the Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability and delivered on 19th February, 2024, the concerned staff who were aggrieved complained about how the bank has failed to pay their severance benefits having worked with the bank within the last 10 to 20 years. They complained about the irregularities in the payment of their gratuity which they said was not paid beyond December 2018, leaving a big 5 years vacuum of payment unpaid.

The aggrieved staff also complained about how their principal deliberately excluded them from the recently implemented salary increment, an act they considered unjustifiable, having put so much of their efforts in realising the success of the bank over the years. They regarded this as unjust actions which go against the principles of fairness and respect of employees.

While calling for the apex bank’s intervention over the matter, they however stated what they want from their former employer. These they stated below:

1.Since effective disengagement date is 31st January 2024, we have a right to Full January salary

2.The one month in lieu of notice paid should have been full Net Monthly salary without any deductions.

3. The ex gratia of 4 months Net salary paid is not acceptable, we are entitled to 100% Annual Gross salary as severance package.

4.It is gross injustice and wicked for Eco bank management to deny us of the new salary scale for November and December 2023 salary and the one month in lieu payment made in January 2024, we worked for the last six months of year 2023 and we also

made contributions and as such entitled to the new scale just like the staff members not

affected.

5.We strongly demand for normal salary of January to be paid with the monthly pension remittance to various PFAs.
