Preparations have been in top gear throughout this week for the burial rites of Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu KJW, the Otun Iya Laje and the Iya Apesin of Lagos. She is the adorable wife of Sir (Dr.) Chief Kesington Adebukola Adebutu, her billionaire businessman husband of over 40 years. She once described him as a great father, wonderful friend, a sincere companion and a great mentor to their entire household.
She passed on recently and the burial rite began this week and will end on Friday, 10th February, 2023.
The burial of Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu KJW, JP (1939-2023) (nee Jaiyesimi) began with Service of Songs on Tuesday, 7th February 2023 at Harbour Point, Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
This was followed by a 9.00am Commendation Service the following days, Wednesday, 8th February, 2023 at Hoare’s Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Sabo-Yaba, Lagos.
After the commendation service, the body departed for Iperu Remo, Ogun State, via Odogbolu, Ogun State, her hometown. At 5.00pm on Thursday, 9th February, 2023 at Marble House, Iperu Remo, Ogun State the Christian Wake Keep took place.
And at 11am on Friday, 10th February 2023 at the Methodist Church, Iperu Remo, Ogun State, the funeral was held.
Reception followed immediately at Sir Kesington Adebutu Resort, along Iperu-Ode road, Ogun State.
Everyone who has met her has something nice to say about her.
Let’s tell you a little about her story. She was born to the Jaiyesimi family of Odogbolu. Mrs. Caroline Oladunni Adebutu had her elementary education at St Dominic Catholic School, Yaba and St Paul School, Odogbolu, Ogun State.
She attended Methodist Girls High School, Yaba from 1952-57 and started work at the Board of Customs and Excise in Lagos briefly before proceeding on vocational training at the Federal Training Centre, Broad Street, Lagos. After completing this programme, she returned to Customs again and worked for a little while until January I963, when she travelled to the UK to study at the Pitmas College for a one-year programme in Secretarial Administration.
On return to Nigeria, she was posted to the Ministry of Health from where she was seconded to the Board of Customs in 1967. She eventually left the service in 1971 at the request of her husband who wanted her to be a full-time housewife.
As to that decision, she said, “I didn’t like the idea at that time, but I had no option. My husband had been wonderful since then, tending to family needs, while I was bringing up the children.
She is survived by lovely children one of whom is Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the businessman and politician. He is the governorship candidate of Ogun PDP.
She is of Odogbolu descent and Iperu-Remo matrimony. Her husband, Sir Kesington Adebukola Adebutu OON, CON, CRF, KJW, FLSM, FNIJ F Ameds holds the powerful position of Odole Oodua of the Source. He is an accomplished businessman and a man of great means.
Since the news of his wifes passing became known, Chief Adebutu’s Ijebu home had become a Mecca of sorts as many distinguished Nigerians, church leaders all trooped to Iperu to sign the condolence register and commiserate with Chief Kesington Adebutu who has touched so many lives.
He has not only touched the lives of individuals, he has helped so many clubs associations, across Nigeria.
