Governor Umo Eno to deliver Yoruba Tennis Club Centenary Lecture on August 6

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, will on Thursday, August 6, 2026, deliver the prestigious Centenary Lecture of the Yoruba Tennis Club as part of activities commemorating the Club’s 100th anniversary.

 

The lecture, themed Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance: Renewing Hope in Challenging Times,” will hold at the Greetings Hall of the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Patron of the Yoruba Tennis Club; Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Vice Patron of the Club; and Alhaji Dr Femi Okunnu, CON, SAN, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Trustees.

As Guest Speaker, Governor Umo Eno is expected to deliver an insightful lecture on the role of democratic leadership and good governance in addressing Nigeria’s contemporary challenges. He will also showcase the achievements of the Akwa Ibom State Government under the ARISE Agenda, highlighting how the administration has strengthened democratic governance, accelerated sustainable development, and delivered tangible dividends of democracy to the people over the past three years.

The Centenary Lecture is one of the flagship events marking the Yoruba Tennis Club’s 100 years of promoting excellence, tradition, fellowship, leadership, and service to society. It is expected to attract an array of distinguished personalities from government, the private sector, academia, the diplomatic community, and civil society, who will reflect on the future of democratic governance and nation-building in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club and the Centenary Planning Committee, Bro. Engr. Olawunmi Gasper, said Governor Umo Eno was selected as Guest Speaker in recognition of his remarkable achievements in office and the administration’s impressive developmental strides over the last three years.

According to him, the Governor’s governance model offers valuable lessons worthy of national discourse. He added that the lecture presents a unique opportunity to foster meaningful conversations on leadership, development, and the future of Nigeria’s democracy while celebrating a century of excellence.

The Akwa Ibom State Government expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club for the honour extended to Governor Umo Eno through the invitation to deliver the landmark Centenary Lecture.

The Government noted that the invitation reflects the Club’s confidence in the Governor’s purposeful leadership and the impact of the ARISE Agenda, while underscoring the growing national recognition of the administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and democratic values.

It also called on Akwa Ibom indigenes, friends, associates, and well-wishers, particularly those residing in Lagos and its environs, to attend the historic event and support the Governor as the Yoruba Tennis Club celebrates its centenary with a significant dialogue on democracy and good governance.

The Government further congratulated the Yoruba Tennis Club on attaining the historic milestone of 100 years and wished the institution continued success as it begins its second century of promoting excellence, unity, leadership, and service to humanity.
