With Pastor Dr. ABEL DAMINA
One of the most talked about, celebrated and controversial pastors in Nigeria today is Akwa Ibom State based Pastor Dr. Abel Damina, Senior Pastor of the Power City International. In and outside the state, his followers have nicknamed him Global Baba, apparently because of the apparent popularity he now attracts across the world. In the past few weeks, his teachings have attracted so much criticism, from very senior pastors across the country.
His teachings on tithe, water baptism, Holy Communion, among others, have become so controversial.
First, who is Pastor Abel Damina?
Dr. Abel Damina is the Founder and President of Abel Damina Ministries International (ADMI) and the CEO of Kingdom Life Network (KLN) – a Christian satellite TV channel. He is the Senior Pastor of Power City International, Headquartered in Uyo, Nigeria with extension Campuses across the globe. He is the President of Abel Damina Ministerial Equipping Network (ADMEN), a global body of like-minded Ministers whose core values are staying true to the fidelity of scriptures: in purpose, manner of life, faith, longsuffering and patience.
Dr Abel Damina hosts the TV program Righteous Invasion of Truth (RIOT) on KLN as well as on other television and radio stations through which millions are being transformed daily. He is a prolific writer and author of several books. He holds PhDs in Philosophy and Ministry among several other achievements.
He is happily married to his sweetheart, Dr Rachel Damina and they are blessed with three lovely children – Jemima, Jesimiel and Jeiel popularly known as the “Triple J plus”. He is also the producers of the popular YouTube series, BEST FRIENDS IN THE WORLD!
Why is he hated by some Pastors?
The Christian community was shaken when Damina launched an attack of criticism at prominent figures like Enoch Adeboye, David Oyedepo, and David Ibiyeomie. In viral videos that rippled through the religious world, Damina challenged these revered leaders for their firm stance on tithing, a practice he condemned as unscriptural and deceptive.
In recent weeks, the fiery preacher has shifted his focus to the younger generation of clerics, including Paul Enenche, Jerry Eze, Jeremiah Fufeyin, and others. Damina boldly questioned their teachings, miracle methods, and doctrines, accusing them of leading their followers astray with practices he considers heretical.
He has been seen to be condemning those pastors who focus their preachings on prosperity and this hasn’t gone down well with many top pastors.
Some of those who have criticised him is Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the leader of Salvation Ministries, claimed he donated 1 million US dollars to God when he had no building of his own and in his message, he encouraged his church members to emulate him.
However, Dr. Abel Damina, has criticized Pastor Ibiyeomie’s narrative.
Dr. Damina accused him of manipulating his congregation with his story and questioned the destination of the funds, implying that the donations ultimately benefit Pastor Ibiyeomie himself. Dr. Damina expressed skepticism about the claims, stating that Ibiyeomie is targeting specific people in the church, using his story to motivate his members to donate.
“A preacher once said that God asked him for money so he brought out $1 million.
Then God said, ‘Good boy, now whether you like it or not, I am going to bless you.
Of course, when he tells his congregation, they will be motivated to drop their own money.
On the other hand, Pastor Paul Eneche, has been hitting hard on Pastor Damina, over fellow Pastors in the country.
Recently, these two prominent pastors have been engaged in a heated verbal battle, driven by past issues and rising tensions that have now become public.
Abel Damina, a fiery preacher, revealed that Enenche was trained in the ministry under a pastor of his church’s branch in Jos, Plateau State. Damina disclosed that Enenche’s ordination ceremony was attended by Bishop Isaac Idahosa, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election.
Damina disclosed that he stopped encouraging Christians to pay tithes as it was a means of siphoning money of church members by pastors.
Pastor Enenche, recently gave a sermon that has caught a lot of attention online. He aimed sharp criticism at Damina, ridiculing his smaller congregation and claiming that his place of worship is not worthy of being called a church.
The cleric continued, ridiculing Damina’s online, fans for following his lessons, suggesting they were lost individuals attracted to lies.
Pastor Damina, responded passionately that, the true success isn’t just about having large crowds in church but about truly making disciples for Christ, which is far more valuable to God.
In a powerful reply, Damina emphasized that the focus shouldn’t be on having large crowds in church. The real mission is to win true disciples for Christ, which holds greater importance to God.
He emphasized that anyone can gather a crowd, including famous musicians such as the late Michael Jackson, Davido, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage, who can easily fill large spaces.
Damina went further, responding to those who have criticized him for his comments about Enenche and other pastors, telling them to let these figures be and to be focused on their beliefs.
A few weeks ago, Pastor Damina also revealed how God told him to tell Pastor Enenche, to float a church in Abuja called Dunamis Church today.
His words, “Many years ago, Pastor Paul Enenche, I know so many of you know him. He was a member of our church. He and his wife wanted to go to London to go and read Master’s in Medical Science but they did not have the money and the contact.
“So, they came to Uyo with their letters of admission. I still have copies of the letter. And they said to me, we know you are connected to London. We have admission. We want to go to London to read medicine so that when we come back we can start doing rural medical outreach.
“So kindly help talk to your contacts to help, even if they can give a scholarship or sponsor us. I told them to sleep in the guest room that night and that I was going to talk to God about it. So I came to the guest room later and said to them, the Lord just spoke to me that you are not going to London for medical science.
“You are not going to read medicines at the master’s level. The Lord told me, it was time for you to start a church and that from the church you would build a medical team that would go out for medical outreach. And he (Enenche) said Church, where? I said Abuja. He said he did not know anybody in Abuja. I said to him just take a bus to Abuja when you get back to Jos. When you get there start doing evangelism. And that was it; the Dunamis Church was born.”
He now explained further that words of prophecy contain information that will give direction that will fix people’s lives. He urged his listeners not to despise it.
