So tell us who’s Don Coleone?Â
Don Coleone is first Mr Ugoh Onyeocha, a certified accountant by profession, real estate guru, luxury cars concierge, before becoming an afrobeat superstar.Â
How did you come up with the name Don Coleone..
I adopted Coleone from my best movie star and role model Don Coleone of the renowned Godfather fame.Â
How did music start for you ?
Music for me is an age longed passion from childhood and I decided to give it a run now that I am more relaxed financially and can put my hand in several things and explore my hobbies too and probably make more money.Â
Take us through your family and educational background?Â
I am a son of the soil from Imo state, ikeduru to be precise, attended both primary and secondary school in Nigeria, did diploma in accounting also and had my BSc in Accounting and Finance from Middlesex University in the cause of my years living in UAE, worked as a real estate broker in the early 2000, got involved in mortgages and several real estate deals that propelled me into the niche Dubai real estate market till date.Â
How did you come up with the boredom bounce for your recently released Jam?Â
Boredom was just a phrase I usually used to express what I enjoy doing when I am bored and what could that be, shopping, I am a shopperholic and so I always get bored and all I do to kill that boredom is to always bounce to the mall and shop even things I don’t need and when I get tired I go home, so I found myself doing that most often and I always make jokes about this freaky lifestyle and that was how I started vibing the boredom bounce in my car the hook was created, one straight call to my prolific hit-maker Egarboi, the beat was cooked and here I serve you boredom bounce.Â
In a scale of 1-10 how good do you see yourself?
I don’t know what else to say but I think I am the best, I am not very popular right now, my sound is still new to music lovers and most people are just watching to see if he is a one hit wonder and will disappear after my first hit single #runaway, but I know, this people could not believe my skills when I dropped the follow up single #PepperEverywhere and within one month, I hit them gbos gbas with boredom bounce. So like 7up, the difference is clear
What gets the billionaire singer upset ?Â
Do I really get upset, I don’t really get upset but there are some Little things that get me upset yeah and one of them is, some mediocre elements masquerading as promoters but they are actually egungun, I have seen this person’s in the music industry, those guys that will approach you simply because they know am not based in Nigeria and they will say whole lots of stuff they can do as promoters for your brand and once I give them money, the rest is history.
I have met alot of this guys and have lost lots of money to this guys and they re reading this interview and their conscience will be dealing with them and karma will pay them back surely.Â
Looking all good and cute I most say, so tell us how you cope with the female fans out there ?Â
Female fans will always be there and I don’t see that as any problem, I am very friendly and I know how to handle that, as you can see, I am not a kid.
Who are the Artiste you’ve worked, and the once you would like to work with ?
I first recorded a song with Davido titled Setawon which will be dropping in few weeks, even before recording with zlatan and I am jumping on other songs with 2 other A list artiste and one USA artiste am In talks with now.Â
Tell us how you got zlatan on boredom bounce?..Â
There is nothing serious about this, got him on the song in the normal naija style of rub my palm with some muller and I jump on your song so there is no big deal, I can get any artiste on my song if I want but I don’t think it’s too good because the artistes sometimes feel they re doing you a major favour or they re gonna blow you but that’s not the truth, no matter who you feature in your song, if the song is not good, it’s not going anywhere, so I am even considering a more solo career.Â
What do u have to say about the present condition in Nigeria?Â
Hahahahaha, If Nigerian condition is really good, I will not be here, I am supposed to be in Nigeria since i dropped my first single to promote and do some radio and club tours and get familiar with my fan base but trust me,
I always have cold feet every time I think about that, sometimes I just want to do Music for the fun of it not like there is any kind of colour of money I have not seen now, so you must not be surprised when you don’t see me chasing this like every other artiste out there who their life depended on it.
For me Nigeria is in a deplorable state, bad governance, failed security, bad Fiscal and monetary policy, more like a feudal system and I really praise the ones trying to survive there, it’s not easy, God will see us through, no place Iike home as they say but at this case, that saying has turn to an illusion.Â
Is there anything you would like us to know?Â
Yes First, I am not only interested in music, I also have written a movie titled The Syndicates which will be the baddest drug cartel movie out of Africa and I am putting things in place to start the production asap.Â
In 5 years from now where do you see Don Coleone?Â
Don Coleone will be a house hold name, will be on every lips and always on your screen either music or video but trust me, mark this face, you will see more of it.. God bless Dubai and Biafra…. Haahahahahahaha
