The #ENDSARSNOW youth protest in Rivers State has been described as one of the most peaceful civil demonstrations in Nigeria as until October 21st, 2020 when the mayhem at Oyigbo took place with the killing of 6 Soldiers and 4-Policemen. The organizers of the peaceful protest it was reported were mainly highly enlightened groups led by Civil Liberty organization and other Non-Governmental organizations.
Despite the ban by Governor Wike, the Rivers State #ENDSARSNOW protesting youth defiled his Order and headed straight to the main gate of Rivers state Government House Port Harcourt where they waited for hours until he was in their midst for address. However, when there were reports of mass looting of COVID-19 Warehouse across the Nigeria, Rivers State youth remained adamant as Governor Wilke truly displayed his leadership quality by setting up a COVID 19 Palliative Sharing Committee headed by Ambassador Desmond Akawor now Chairman of PDP in Rivers State with members of Non-Governmental Organization, Nigerian Labour Congress, Journalists and faith-based organizations.
The Governor rolled out 45-seater buses for free mass transit movement of the people targeted at various routes in the town and Local Government Areas. Even when social deviants hijacked the protest on 21st of October, 2020 Rivers State Governor Wike was always updating the citizens and residents on how best to conduct themselves and remain safe as he announced curfew on major sensitive locations of the state capital such as Mile one, Mile two and Mile Three areas plus that of popular Ikokwu Spare Parts Market locations and Oyigbo local government Area.
