Soursop is a tropical fruity which has a thick prickly flesh with sweet soar taste . Most Nigerians pronounce it as “ shawa chop” . The botanical name for this fruit is Annona Muricata. Other names include: graviola, custard apple, ebo or apekan in Yoruba, fasadarur or tuwon biri in Hausa, and sawansop in Ibo. It is eaten in its raw form by most people. For example, in one study published in 1997 in “Journal of Medicinal Chemistry,” compounds from soursop were tested on breast cancer cells in culture and found to be up to 250 times more effective in killing the cells than some chemotherapy drugs.
Researchers have revealed that a meal of soursop could be the cure for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and diarrhea. Soursop is a medicinal plant that has been used as a natural remedy for a variety of illnesses. Several studies by different researchers demonstrated that the bark as well as the leaves has anti-hypertensive, vasodilator, anti-spasmodic (smooth muscle relaxant) and cardio depressant (slowing of heart rate) activities in animals.

Extracts were also shown to be lethal to the fresh water mollusk, Biomphalaria glabrata, which act as a host for the parasitic worm Schistosoma mansoni. But recent stIudies have described how extracts of Soursop reduces blood sugar in diabetics by improving insulin production, Improves cardiovascular health by reducing blood fats, treat drug resistant cancer, stop diarrhoea in children, among others.
Soursop helps maintain and regulate the glucose level to a stable level. This prevents peaks in blood sugar. Here, it is acetogenin that plays a role. This benefit has been scientifically proven through a study published by the journal of traditional medicine and dietary supplements. The study involved two series of diabetic rats, one group of which was fed only for two weeks of soursop extract. As for the others, they were subjected to another type of treatment. At the end of the observations, the first group fed soursop had reached a glucose level close to normal. When taken to humans, this suggests that eating soursop can help diabetics. You can also eat it as an infusion of roots and soursop leaves in case of diabetes or spasm.
PREPARATION
How to make a concoction of soursop leaves is very easy. All you have to prepare is 40 to 50 leaves of soursop and about 2 liters of water. Boil the soursop leaves until the boiling water and take the color of the leaves. Once ready, let cool for a moment, then drink the solution 3 glasses a day. Do it regularly to get the best results.
