Adron Homes has done greatly by hosting the 6th edition of its annual sporting events, Adron Games 2022. The recently concluded sporting games was held at the popular Dr. Philip Adegbile Sport Complex in Yaba College of Technology, Lagos between 10th to 12th November, 2022.
The choice of the sport centre provided all the needed facilities for the games as participants were able to compete for top prizes up for grabs. The 3 day-long event was massive as the host institution and its environs came alive as top celebrities trooped in to grace the event. It was a combination of sporting activities and entertainment extravaganza. Adron Games 2022 is a laudable one. It has set a pace for subsequent Adron Games.
City People Jamiu Abubakar (08085185886) had a chat with one of the organisers of the annual competition who is also the group company secretary for Adron Homes Properties Limited, Jesuyemisi Odeyemi. She revealed why Adron Games 2022 was unique and why they decided to host the games in Lagos.
Speaking on the nature of the games, she said: “This year’s Adron Games is one of the biggest events in history. It was tagged “The Fit Are The Best”. At Adron Homes Property Limited, we know that physical health is extremely important. As an organisation we try to promote corporate fitness habits amongst not only our staff but even the general public. Corporate organisations need to be fit. We sit in the offices all day long. Some people have back problems, leg problems and so on. If we follow the fitness culture, people will live longer and they are more productive in their work place. So that’s the whole thing in Adron Games.”
When asked to speak about the uniqueness of the 6th edition of the annual games and how it’s an upgrade of the previous editions held, she said: “It is powerful because we have more activities involved. This year, we have over 20 sporting activities. Before we had football, badminton, volleyball, basketball, chess, PS4, Table tennis, Ayo, Scrabbles and many others but now we have added many more games. And we have also had the public join us. For instance, we have people who have called to say they want to do seminar races, track events; they were given the opportunity to compete and race themselves which I see as fantastic. We have banks play against banks. We have Ex-Super Eagles Internationals here who played against our contractors. The match was fun all the way through.
She went ahead to reveal why they brought the games to Lagos this time around. “The thing is that every year we choose our location. We pick a place each time. We don’t do it two times in a row consecutively. For instance, we had this year’s games in Yaba. We had the previous edition in Ogun state last year. We have had it in Ibadan at some point. At least we have tried to go not too far. Our staff at Adron Homes are into regions. Because we want a sort of fairness and we also want to build participation with our staff. We call our regions; world. The Lagos world hosted this year’s event. They are very happy. You can see them here and there. Last year, Ogun World hosted us. We want everybody to have a sense of participation like it’s the thing, it’s our thing. That’s where we create that bond within our staff. So, we move it around. Hopefully, we will go to Abuja someday.”
As one of the organisers of the just concluded games she spoke of the many things they were able to do to meet their expectations. “Like I said earlier, several games were held. All the things we look out for are physical fitness, bonding, and we have raffle draws, we have had beauty pageants done properly. People who came here for the games had fun; kept fit and got excited. On the Entertainment part, Vanessa Jones and Zinoleesky stormed the event to entertain the teeming crowd on the third day and closing ceremony. We had a number of entertainers who also sang during the games. So, the whole event was a fantastic fun time. It’s a time to just relax and slowdown while being physically fit and enjoying themselves.”
She concluded by describing how winners at the events were rewarded and made to smile home. Most especially the star prize which was a return ticket to Qatar 2022 World cup. “All the games held had rewards attached to it. Winners smiled home with lots of prizes in different categories. For our raffle draws we gave out different things to our lucky winners. Meanwhile our star prize was a return ticket to Qatar for the world cup which everybody dreams of.
