Ex-Nigera internationals, Sylvanus Okpala and Joseph Dosu, have tipped the Super Eagles to do well at the upcoming Russia 2018 World Cup
The duo told newsmen on Friday in Lagos in separate interviews that the team would do well, irrespective of the group the Eagles would eventually find themselves.
Okpala, who was a former Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles under the late Stephen Keshi, also commended the Eagles for the remarkable performance the players put up against the Albiceleste of Argentina.
“I was really impressed with the boys. It was meant to be a friendly but to me it seems like a World Cup final. They gave their best which was evident from the score line.
“These crop of players have shown that nothing beats determination, they came prepared. If they show the same attitude towards the World Cup, I’m positive that they will go far.
“I’d also like to commend the NFF. They made the friendly happen, which is commendable.
“This is the type of Grade A friendly matches that can help the players become a strong force to their opponent at the World Cup,’’ Okpala said.
In the same vein, Dosu, who was bound for the France `98 World Cup before a near-fatal motor accident cut short his career in 1997, urged the Super Eagles to build on their recent successes.
“Expectations are high with the type of display we saw at the friendly match against Argentina, if they can show the same zeal at the main tournament, I’m sure we would go far.
“They were 2-0 down and they were able to overturn that. Argentina are no small team, if they can focus on the job, it wouldn’t matter under which group we fall at the World Cup.
“Kudos to the technical crew, applause to the NFF. It is good to see the Nigerian fighting spirit. It was a beauty to behold,’’ he said.
