From London to Lagos: Africa Fashion Week Nigeria prepares to capture global diaspora market in December 2026

Riding on the momentum of Africa Fashion Week London, AFWN 2026 brings the theme “The Future Wears Africa” to the J.Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History on December 12–13, targeting the high-net-worth global diaspora.

Following a record-breaking showcase at Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) in August, the executive board of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) has officially unveiled plans for its 12th annual edition, taking place on December 12–13, 2026. Taking place at the iconic J.Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2026 stands as the sole dedicated fashion runway and trade platform taking place during the peak of Lagos’ world-famous “Detty December” festival season.

Every December, Lagos transforms into the cultural capital of West Africa, welcoming over 1,000,000 international visitors, African diaspora returnees, and global tastemakers. With the Nigerian diaspora sending back record remittances and seeking premium cultural experiences, AFWN 2026 bridges the gap between high-spending consumers and African design houses.

Under this year’s defining theme, “The Future Wears Africa,” the two-day event is engineered to convert seasonal diaspora foot traffic into long-term commercial growth for designers.

  • Day One (Industry & Commerce Focus): Dedicated to B2B engagements, connecting emerging and established fashion entrepreneurs directly with retail buyers, investors, luxury stylists, and global press.
  • Day Two (Culture & Consumer Marketplace): Integrates live high-fashion catwalk shows with an interactive “Shop The Runway” B2C pop-up marketplace, giving holiday visitors immediate access to buy custom resort wear, streetwear, and couture straight off the runway.

“Africa’s population is projected to reach nearly 2.5 billion by 2050. The global fashion industry is shifting its gaze to Lagos not just as an aesthetic inspiration, but as a primary consumer market,” says Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, Founder of AFWN and AFWL. “Our London event proved the global appetite for African luxury. Now, bringing that momentum home to Lagos during Detty December allows us to capture an audience that designers simply cannot reach at any other point of the year.”

AFWN 2026 provides an end-to-end commercial funnel for fashion brands looking to scale across the diaspora. Designer registration, exhibition booth bookings, and media accreditation are now officially open. Early access passes and VIP invitations are also available online at www.africafashionweeknigeria.com
