The birthday dinner was full of glitz and glamour considering the caliber of people that were in attendance speaks volume of how she’s being loved by many in the entertainment industry and other walks of life.
In a chat with City People’s Jamiu Abubakar, Oluwatoyin Black narrates how the experience she gathered from different media houses prepared her to set up Black TV, what keeps her strong in the industry and hint about what her fashion sense.
“I have been in the industry for about 17 years now. I’ve done Radio, I’ve done TV and I’m still even in other businesses. It’s quite challenging but if you have God beside, when you have God with you; behind you, everywhere you go you will always ask God for steps. Before you take each of your steps you ask God. It will always be easy even when challenges come. I can tell that it has not been rosy. I worked with Gold FM; Radio Nigeria, I’ve worked with Splash FM, I’ve worked with BCOS, Ibadan, I’ve worked with Ajilete FM; Ogbomosho, I’ve worked with Positive FM Akure. You see how I’m counting them. Yes when I got into Lagos, I worked with Galaxy TV before I started my Black TV. Having to say you have your own thing, you have to be strong. It’s a long journey for me but looking back now I would just say I thank God in all. I didn’t quit. I will encourage every girl or every lady who aspires to be something, they should not give up. Things would happen that would make you want to stop. But you can’t stop because you’ve not gotten to where you going so when you get there what happens? So, glory be to God. I still go back to the root because it’s God.
“Passion is another thing that keeps me going. If you don’t have passion for what you do you are going to become frustrated because even living in Nigeria is frustration not to talk of in Lagos where there are different competitions. There are people who better than you, who are more beautiful than you, people who are more creative than you but if you have passion in what you do you love it rain, sun everything you are sticking strong. You’ll get there. So, passion and consistency have kept me going.
“Talking about my fashion sense, I think my environment informs it. I don’t like to dress indecently. Everybody knows. From my pictures you can tell the kind of person I am. I’m simple but I love quality things. The environment sends signal to on how to dress. So my fashion sense comes from my environment.Â
