The event is aimed to reward the best in the movie sector. It is set to play host to a large number of Northern movie stars, either to receive awards or just to be part of the event. City People’s BUNMI OKOTIE compiles a list of 30 Kannywood stars, who are set to storm Lagos.
SADIQ SANI SADIQ
Sadiq is a popular actor, who has registered his name as an A-class Kannywood actor. He started acting in 2004 and got his major break in a movie entitled: Danmarayan Zaki in 2012.He keeps redefining himself each passing day and has won the admiration of movie fans in the north. Many preferred to call him Gambo Uban-Tani.
ALI NUHU He is one of the big boys in the Kannywood movie industry. Aside the numerous endorsement deals in his knapsack, he has appeared in hundreds of Hausa and English films. The 43-year- old actor, who is also a producer and Director, is mostly referred to as the King of Kannywood and has been active for a long time. He is the most decorated actor in Kannywood with various categories of awards to his credit.
ADAMU A. ZANGO: Adamu is another A-class actor who is very successful both in the music and movie industry in the north.JAMILA UMARCalm, modest and gorgeous are all attributes of Jamila, Kannywood’s super actress. She is the only female Hausa actress, who had been endorsed as a Globacom ambassador and to have co-star red with one of the Bollywood gallant players, Johnny Lever, in the First Kannywood film shot in India. The multiple-award winning actresses has been able to stay relevant in the industry. She has dazzled in over 200 movies, which include: Jamila da Jamilu, which brought her to the limelight.
HADIZA ALIYU GABON:
The very pretty Gabonese actress is a shinning star among her peers, born in the city of Libreville, the capital of Gabon, to a Gabonese Father and a Nigerian Mother, who is from Adamawa State. She joined the industry after relocating to Nigeria in 2009, but had a little challenge to breakthrough because of her inability to speak Hausa fluently as she could only speak French, she had to learn the Hausa language.

She joined the industry at the age of 8 through her mother, Hajia Zainab Booth, who is also an actress. She grew up in an entertainment family. Her elder sister, Sadiya, was an actress but quit acting after her marriage to a Kannywood actor, Yakubu Mohammed. She is one of the most talked about actress with great potential.
Umma is one actress, who is speedily climbing to the top with a few awards to show for her efforts. She is very respectful and believes that the industry has not seen the best of her yet.
The Borno State-born actress set the ball rolling years back with a movie, Dakin Amarya”, and she has not looked back since then. Her signature role is the wicked and jealous. The roles have helped her to stand out from inception.
SANI SULE KATSINA:
Call him Kannywood’s biggest producer and you won’t be wrong. The former NDLEA officer-turned- movie producer is the CEO of Rite Time Multimedia. He is the producer of Kannywood blockbuster movie, Hindu, and many others.
FATIMA ABDULLAHI WASHA:
Fati is not only a talented actress but also very pretty and always looking ravishing. Her good looks, coupled with her large number of fans have been an advantage to her in the industry.
Lawan has been active in the industry for 15 years under FKD production outfit owned by star actor, Ali Nuhu. Lawan who hit the limelight in a movie entitled: Dijangala in 2008, has great potential. Mostly, he plays supporting roles and always delivers impressively.
NAZIRU AWAL (Dan Hajiya):
Dan Hajia, as he popularly called, is an example of hard work and determination; he is one of the biggest and most sought- after producer. Some of the block buster movies he has produced are Hanyar Kano, Asibitin Kauye, Hajia Babba, Uwa Tafi Uwa.
The 22 years old actress with an average height, who is an NCE student at Saadatu Rimi College of Education Kano, joined the industry in 2012 and showed determination to excel in the industry.In a short time, she has played lead roles in movies and TV series such as Kukan KUrciya, Mairo, Dare Biyu, Idan hakane, Motum ko Aljan and Hindu.
She is one of the new faces making waves in Kannywood right now; she is a Kano indigene but born and bred in Shagamu. She made her debut in the acting career in Barauniya, a film she played the lead role.
Abbas is one of the famous actors in the Kannywood movie industry, who have paid their dues. The accounting graduate from the University of Jos hit the limelight with a movie, Turna, in 1998 and ever since he has tried to remain relevant.
Ibrahim is another new face, who is fast gaining prominence in the industry, as he is not a push over. He is more popular in TV series.

The 10-year-old son of a famous actor, Ali Nuhu, has followed his father’s footsteps. Ahmad is fast attaining a super star status. Some of his hit movies are Carbin Kwai, Akan Idona and Dan Almajiri.He is also a Blue Boat milk bread Ambassador.

The name Aisha Tsamiya rings a bell in Kannywood movie industry. The young actress has shown prospect to make it big and her performance has been highly inspirational. She hit the limelight in movies such as Ranar baiko, Hanyar Kano, Dakin Amarya among others.After winning the Kannywood best actress award at the 5th City People entertainment award, she went ahead to sign an ambassadorial contract with MTN.
AMINU SHERIFF MOMO:
Aminu Sheriff Momo is another well known and talented actor, producer. He plays host to a popular Kannywood show, Kundin Kannywood, on Arewa 24 Television.
He is another ambitious actor whose dogged determination to excel in his acting profession has propelled him to greater heights. He joined the industry in 2009 and has acted in so many movies with many awards to show for his efforts.
FATIMA MOHAMMED SHU’UMA:
This very pretty actress stunned the industry with her sizzling performance in a movie entitled: Shu’uma, and has gone ahead to feature in several other movies. Her beauty is a refreshing sight to behold on screen.
Maryam has been in the Kannywood industry for sometimes and her first major role is in the movie entitled: Mansoor in December 2016. The flick completely changed her status, soaring from an ordinary back-up to a star.
